Oscar De La Hoya Sued By His Former PR Director For Wrongful Termination

American boxing promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, was charged.

A 50-year-old former professional boxing employee claims he was wrongfully dismissed.

In a legal document obtained by Explosionin 2006, De La Hoya pursued Gonzalez to join Golden Boy Promotions, Inc.

At the time, Ramiro Gonzalez was a respected and trusted syndicated sports writer La Opinion, enjoys an excellent reputation in the sports community. With the promise of wealth and lifelong support, Mr. De La Hoya finally convinced Mr. Gonzalez to leave his position at La Opinion. In 2007, Gonzalez joined Golden Boy Promotions as their Public Relations Director.

Gonzalez claimed he was an “integral” part of the team, and his “responsibilities included writing and managing public relations.”

According to the document, “Mr. Gonzalez considered leaving the company several times. However, Mr. De La Hoya repeatedly assured him that he would be looked after for life and guaranteed a job with Golden Boy. Although Mr. Gonzalez initially signed a contract with Golden Boy Promotions, Mr. De La Hoya and the company then ignored the terms of the contract. They relied on their continued promise of lifetime support and employment. Mr. Gonzalez was instrumental in the success of Golden Boy Promotions by helping in securing top fighters, such as Canelo Alvarez.”

Gonzalez claimed that De La Hoya had caused him to engage in inappropriate behavior, asking him to help or cover up illicit activities.

This pattern of behavior is indicative of a hostile work environment that exacerbates the harm Mr. Gonzalez experienced. Based on these facts, Mr. Gonzalez was wrongfully terminated and subjected to age discrimination (66 years old), a hostile work environment, and other violations of his rights under the FEHA.

She Sues For Wrongful Termination & Unspecified Damages

Gonzalez is seeking reinstatement, back pay, damages for emotional distress, and any other relief deemed just and proper by the court.

He is suing for unpaid wages, restitution, punitive damages and attorney’s fees.

No specific damages are specified in the legal document.

As a direct and proximate result of the defendant’s unlawful conduct and prolonged harassment, the plaintiff has suffered and will continue to suffer injuries, including but not limited to continued pain and suffering, stress, loss of sleep, anxiety, embarrassment, humiliation, loss of self-esteem, depression, and extreme and severe mental suffering and emotional distress; and the plaintiff has suffered loss of income and other employment benefits.

Gonzalez further claimed that Golden Boy Promotions, Inc. and Oscar De La Hoya wrongful termination of Plaintiff Ramiro Gonzalez’s employment; The plaintiff has suffered damages, including loss of income, emotional distress, and damage to his professional reputation.
