Ozzy Osbourne Boasts Family’s Show Was Unscripted Unlike Modern Reality TV

Ozzy Osbourne has some strong opinions about the current state of reality TV shows.

In a recent interview, the legendary Black Sabbath frontman, who has since moved into the podcast scene with his family, slammed modern reality shows for being too scripted. He claims that his former family’s show is very different because of its commitment to unscripted and uncensored content.

Ozzy Osbourne Slams Scripted Reality TV Shows

“The Osbournes” was a groundbreaking reality show from 2002 to 2005, offering an unfiltered look into the lives of the Prince of Darkness, his wife Sharon, and their two children, Jack and Kelly.

The show became a runaway success, captivating audiences with its chaotic humor, family dynamics, and ruthless wit and charm. This commitment to authenticity made their show a cultural phenomenon, paving the way for a new era of reality TV.

In a candid conversation with Spin magazine, Ozzy reflected on the evolving landscape of the genre over the past two decades. He laments the shift toward scripted reality, stressing that the authenticity of today’s shows pales in comparison to the raw, unfiltered portrayal of his family’s life. She spoke:

“What they are doing now is a kind of scripted reality. It’s not raw. It’s not the real reality.”

While discussing their groundbreaking series, the 75-year-old asserted, “With our show, what you see is what actually happened. It is not contrived. It’s not scripted.” The father of five also stated:

“The reality show is no different from our normal life because that’s the way we are. We don’t become the Osbournes you see just for the show. That’s the way we are, and all they do is take a little bit of the funny stuff.”

Ozzy also revealed that the decision to continue each season is a family affair, with his wife orchestrating the annual discussions. However, as the famous family faced increasing pressure to come up with the fabricated scenario, the rock legend admitted:

“After the third year, [production crew and MTV] started asking us to do things we didn’t normally do. At that point, I lost interest in it.”

A reluctance to compromise their authenticity ultimately led to the decision to end their reality TV journey.

Since then, the singer’s family has moved on to other things, including starting a family podcast in 2018. However, after a five-year hiatus, they made a triumphant return with a second season in September.

Still committed to originality, the podcast promises 20 episodes delving into topics ranging “from romance to true crime.” Filmed within the walls of the home of the songwriter and his wife, the series will feature Ozzy Osbourne sharing the microphone with longtime friend and musician Billy Morrison.

The family released two teasers for the first two episodes to build anticipation. One shows the media personality jokingly quizzing her son Jack about his activities over the past five years, prompting Sharon’s jokey response about “making babies.”

The second teaser takes a lighthearted turn when the family joke about their parents having to do a “two-year tune-up” – a playful comparison to car maintenance routines.
