A shooting at a university in Prague has left “several” dead and injured, local authorities said.
The incident took place at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts near the Czech capital’s Old Town, which is a popular tourist destination, Prague police said on X.
Moments later, authorities confirmed that the shooter had been “eliminated” but that there were “several” dead and wounded at the scene.

Sirens and police vehicles surrounded campus buildings while onlookers appeared to panic and try to flee, social media videos showed.
“We urge people not to stay in the nearby area and not to leave their homes,” stressed the Prague police.
“Currently stuck in my classroom in Prague. The shooter is dead, but we are waiting to be evacuated. Praying that he gets out alive,” journalist Jakob Weizman wrote on the X along with a photo of a dark classroom where he shelters.

“Lock the door before the shooter tries to open it. F–king hell,” he lamented.
Another social media user share a surprising photo of what appeared to be students huddled on the scaffolding of a university building.
