Pankaj Tripathi is an Indian actor who mostly works in Bollywood. He is known for his natural acting skills. The actor rose to fame with his supporting role in the film, “Gangs of Wasseypur,” where he essayed the character of ‘Sultan.’

Pankaj Tripathi was born on 5 September 1976 (age 47 years; in 2023) in Belsand, a small town in the Gopalganj district of Bihar, India. He attended DPH School in Gopalganj. Tripathi was inclined towards acting since childhood, and only at the age of 12, she started performing as a ‘girl artiste’ at the ‘Chhath Festival’ in her village.
Tripathi’s father wanted him to become a doctor and sent him to Patna for higher studies. While studying there, he joined the ABVP and took an active part in college politics. He is an eloquent speaker. Pankaj is also good at sports and represents his college in High Jump and 100 meter sprint. After completing his college education, he joined a Hotel Management course and worked as a ‘cook’ for two years at Hotel Maurya.
Later, the actor worked in the theater for several years before appearing in films.

Pankaj is 5′ 10″ tall and weighs 70 kg. He has dark brown eyes and black hair.

Pankaj was born in a Hindu family. His father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, was a farmer and priest, and his mother, Hemwanti, a housewife; Pandit Banaras Tiwari died on 21 August 2023. Pankaj had 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
His wife’s name is Mridula, and he married her on 15 January 2005, and they have a daughter named Aashi Tripathi.
Career
It was there in Patna that the actor became more interested in art. He began touring various drama shows; asked them if he could act as well. In 1995, he played a small role as a local thief in a drama based on Bhism Sahni’s story about Leela Nandlal, directed by Vijay Kumar (NSD’s disappearance). His performance was greatly appreciated by the audience and the media. Since then, he became a regular theater artist and practiced it for about 4 years.
After spending 7 years in Patna, Pankaj moved to Delhi. He enrolled himself in the National School of Drama, from where he graduated in 2004. Further, he returned to Patna and did theater for 4 months.
On 16 October 2004, Tripathi moved to Mumbai and did an uncredited role in the film ‘Run,’ starring Abhishek Bachchan and Vijay Raaz. He did several minor roles in films and television before playing a pivotal role in a TV drama titled “Gulal.”
While shooting for Gulal, Pankaj received a call to audition for Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. The audition lasted for about 8 hours, and he was offered the role of “Sultan.” Her performance in the film won the praise of the audience and prompted her to receive more offers from several filmmakers. His work in Fukrey, Manjhi: The Mountain Man, and Masaan was also highly appreciated by critics and audiences.
In 2017, Tripathi bagged her first lead role in the film Gurgaon.

- In October 2022, the Election Commission of India announced Pankaj Tripathi as the commission’s National Icon. Mr. Tripathi is already the State Icon of Bihar Election Commission. On the Election Commission of India’s National Icon title, Tripathi said,
I am already Bihar state icon associated with Election Commission and during a program on AIR station Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioner Mr. Anup Chandra announced that now I will be National Icon of Election Commission of India between nominations. performance and it was a pleasant surprise for me because I didn’t realize anything like that would happen.”
- On 11 September 2023, Pankaj inaugurated a library in a school in Belsand, Bihar, in honor of his father.
