Paramore Issues Statement Following Incident Of Audience Harassment In Salt Lake City

Rock group Paramore is speaking out after an incident occurred in the audience at their Salt Lake City show on October 4.

The group, which formed and rose to fame in recent times, has celebrated several moments of success in recent times. Their new single “This Is Why” was released on September 28 after being announced on Twitter two weeks earlier.

Frontwoman Hayley Williams and guitarist Taylor York also recently confirmed their relationship after a period of speculation.

However, the group had to endure an unwanted incident last night while performing on stage.

Following their Salt Lake City performance, the band was informed of a harassment incident involving several audience members.

Earlier this afternoon, Paramore released a statement on Twitter and Instagram, revealing more details.

According to the band’s statement, a male audience member began harassing several female concertgoers and also targeted a couple who were engaged at the show.

Unfortunately, Paramore were not informed of the incident until after the show, a fact that the band expressed deep regret.

What Does Paramore’s Statement Say?

The band’s statement read, “After last night’s show in SLC, we were made aware of an incident that occurred in the public while we were on stage. A man physically and verbally assaulted multiple women, including an engaged couple at our show. Our security and venue staff were alerted and were able to restrain and remove him.

“We didn’t know this happened,” the statement continued, “because it happened out of sight from the stage. If we see any of this happening, we will stop the show until the situation is under control.”

Paramore explained in the third paragraph of the statement how important it is for their fans to feel welcome at their concerts.

“PARAMORE DOES NOT ENDORSE violence, homophobia, or any form of bigotry. It is deeply unwelcome in our community and has no place on our show. To the fans who were hurt or who witnessed what happened last night, we apologize. We hope you know we will always do whatever we can to protect you and make you feel celebrated.”

Their statement concluded, “To make things as clear as possible: Paramount shows are meant to be a safe place for people. If you can’t respect that, don’t come.”

As of this writing, there has been no comment on the group’s Instagram post.

Support for the group’s decision to release a statement regarding last night’s incident began pouring in on Twitter.
