In a new interview with The Guardian, Hayley, 33, and Taylor, 32, confirmed fan speculation that they’re dating but declined to elaborate, so it’s unclear how long the pair have been dating. The guitarist first joined the band in 2007. At the time, the trio also included Zac Farro on drums.

Hayley previously dated her brother and former bandmate Josh Farro, but the relationship soured and Josh quit the band in 2011. In 2016, Hayley married New Found Glory lead guitarist Chad Gilbert, but they called it off after just one year .

On her 2020 solo album Petals for Armor, Hayley talks about being “the other woman” in the song “Dead Horse,” singing, “I got what I deserved / I was the other woman before / Others, others online / But I keep trying to make it work.”

However, on the same album, he released a song called “Crystal Clear,” which featured the lyrics, “Friends or lovers, which will be?” That same year, the “Simmer” singer told Pitchfork that the song was about “falling in love.”

“Despite my fear, my toughness, or any resistance to weakness, I couldn’t help but fall in love,” she said at the time.

Although the music video for the album’s first single “Tell Me Why,” isn’t quite as action-packed, Hayley, 33, revealed that she’s still feeling it.

“It’s not a heavy performance video and I’m still sick,” Hayley joked as Taylor elaborated on why the band decided to take an extended break after releasing their fifth studio album, After Laughter.

“I wanted to explore some deeper parts of myself and think about why we did this, how it happened,” Taylor said, revealing that he had stopped drinking. “I’m a very introverted person and I have interests and careers that are the opposite of that. When it comes back to do [Paramore] again, I can say with confidence, let’s do it. Zac and Hayley need to know that I want to do this.”

Zac Farro also talked about what it was like not having his brother in the group anymore. “You think when you’re young you’re going to do everything together, and we did to a certain extent. Then we didn’t do it,” he said. “It definitely puts a strain on the relationship but I actually think it’s gotten better recently.”

“You can’t be mad at that person – that’s what they chose,” he added. “You have to choose if you want to show love. My heart also went out to him; I don’t want to sound condescending, but some people’s worldviews are not very welcome online. You learn the hard way sometimes.

“This is another thing that I don’t know where to put, but people think they’re doing the right thing,” Taylor added. “A lot of people feel confident; they don’t speak up because they are trying to do the wrong thing.”

The band also revealed that the first song they wrote for their new album was about “exploring how you can’t control someone’s perception of you.”

“What it’s like to accept moments in your life where you’re a bad person or you say something you don’t really believe – Misery Business – and that comes to define you for some people,” explained Hayley. “What can you do but keep growing and challenging yourself? The relief that comes with that is great.”

Hayley wrote the 2007 song when she was just 17. In 2018, she said that they would stop playing the song live. “It’s just that now we feel lighter about the band, it’s like I don’t feel defined by the song,” explained Hayley, recalling how the band used to pick fans out of the crowd to come on stage and sing it with them. “That’s what I think defines our group, not this drama and: ‘Is Hayley the perfect feminist?’ That was very heavy for a long time.”

The band’s sixth studio album will be released on February 10.
