Passengers seen being taken off Delta flight on stretchers after ‘severe turbulence’ injures 11: ‘Bunch of blood and awfulness’

New footage shows the harrowing moment dozens of passengers had to be stretchered off a Delta flight after their plane experienced “severe turbulence” outside Atlanta on Tuesday night – leaving 11 people in hospital.

Passengers and a flight attendant were among those injured when Flight 175 — en route from Milan, Italy — experienced turbulence shortly before 7 p.m., the airline and federal authorities said.

Footage shared on social media showed at least two people being carried on stretchers in the aisle of an Airbus A350 after it landed safely at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

A woman, believed to be a flight attendant, was escorted off the plane wearing a headband and neck brace, while a passenger was seen holding a large ice pack to her head, the video showed.

Several crew members were also filmed wearing sports neck braces as they sat in wheelchairs inside the terminal.

The passenger who recorded the video, Instagram user @helloayo, recalled how the plane suddenly “tumbled” when it hit turbulence – causing many, including himself, to “fly out of their seats.”

“A woman hit a trash can on top and broke it. There were several injuries including most of the flight attendants,” he wrote on social media.

“We did an emergency landing and those who weren’t seriously injured had to stay on the plane until the new flight crew came in because you can’t take off without passengers.”

A couple on board, who did not want to be named, told Fox5 that passengers had to stay on the plane for about two hours while the injured, including some who appeared to have “serious head injuries”, were tested and tended to.

“A pool of blood and horror,” passengers said of the scene on board. “My fiance and I were so scared, we rented a car and drove to our final destination.”

The flight experienced turbulence about 40 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

In total, 11 passengers and crew were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries, Delta said in a statement.

The condition of those injured — or the extent of their injuries — was not immediately clear.

The airline did not immediately respond to The Post on Wednesday.

“Members of the Delta Care Team are on the move to connect with customers,” Delta said in a statement. “Our priority is taking care of our injured customers and crew.”

The airline said Delta agents are providing meals, lodging and rebooking for customers who were not injured by the delay.
