Paul Rudd Reveals Being Apart of ‘Friends’ Finale Episode Was ‘Strange’

Paul Rudd is best known as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but before gaining his superpowers, he portrayed Mike Hannigan in the hit television series, “Friends”.

The actor didn’t join the show until the ninth season, which aired in 2002, and he played Pheobe Buffay’s love interest and third husband.

Now, years later, the 53-year-old looks back on his time on the show, admitting he felt he shouldn’t have been on the “Friends” finale taping.

While promoting his latest film, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” the actor went a bit off topic and thought about one of his first television roles – “Friends”.

The 53-year-old explained how much he loved filming the show with Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing) and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), but there was one episode he felt he shouldn’t have been a part of.

“It’s really fun and they’re great,” Rudd said while appearing on The Heart Breakfast show. “It’s all pretty surreal to be a part of that.”

She joined the show late, first appearing in Season 9 of the series, but remained there until the end as her character married one of the six friends — Pheobe Buffay — in the final season. “I came almost to the end. I never knew I’d be in as many as I have,” Rudd admits before adding, “But it feels weird too. I was in that last episode and I thought ‘I shouldn’t be here, I’m getting a front row seat to things I shouldn’t be seeing’.”

The 53-year-old actor is busy making movies, but he’ll be returning to television soon as he’ll star in the third season of Hulu’s “Only Murderers In The Building” alongside Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin.

Meryl Streep will also join the cast for the upcoming season, which Rudd says is real.

“I got there, and there was Meryl Streep, who is arguably the greatest of all time,” he told PEOPLE. “And Martin Short, who is one of the funniest people on the planet, and someone who, I love, I love so much.”

The 53-year-old “Ant-Man” actor continued, “But still being there with Steve Martin, when I think back to the people who probably had more of an impact on my life and my desire to do this, or my understanding. that doing the show or whatever was the career that one would have, it was him.”

“Only Killers In The Building” seasons one and two are streaming on Hulu.
