Model Paulina Porizkova is calling out “clickbait” headlines claiming her marriage to late Cars frontman Ric Ocasek was “toxic.”
The two were married for nearly 30 years before they announced to the world that they were separating in 2019. Despite their separation, the former couple still lives with their two sons as they work through their divorce process.
Ocasek died aged 70 while recovering from surgery shortly afterwards, leaving the former supermodel in his will. Although Paulina later settled with her estate, she described the feelings of grief and betrayal she experienced in a collection of personal essays she released Tuesday titled “No Filter: The Good, The Bad, and The Beautiful.”

On Tuesday, November 15, the day her book was released, the 57-year-old author took to Instagram to share an unfiltered photo of herself looking into the camera with bleary eyes.
“This is me, barefaced and unfiltered on the day of publication,” she began her lengthy caption. “When I wrote my book, it was with the intention of putting on paper what shaped me to become the person I have become.”
“I didn’t think about the outcome: the piece would be taken out of context and labeled as clickbait,” he admits. “I’m old enough to understand it’s all part of the process: if you stand out, expose yourself, with knowledge you give everyone permission to have an opinion.”
He admits that it’s not uncommon for celebrities to be “raw and exposed” with their personal lives for this exact reason.

“I have now seen a bunch of articles talking about my husband’s ‘toxic’ behavior – their words, not mine. My husband gave me the love I needed for a long time. And in return, he has expectations that I am happy to meet,” he continued. “Is that healthy love? Maybe not, but it was the love I needed and wanted at that time.”
“That’s what I chose. No one has ever loved me like he did. And no one will,” wrote Paulina. “Now I choose to look back on this love with gratitude. It was the only time in my life I felt safe. Today, I don’t need this security. I have learned I can stand on my own.”
“If you want to know the complexities of marriage, read my book,” he told his 885 thousand Instagram followers. “If you decide to go with clickbait only, know that you’re getting other people’s opinions on what they’re scrutinizing to find the nasty details that will grab attention.”
