Paulina Porizkova Fires Back Against ‘Unkind’ Instagram Comments

Model Paulina Porizkova stood her ground after she posted a photo of herself in a bikini on Monday.

The 57-year-old fashion model has never been shy about sharing shirtless and “barely dressed” photos on Instagram, but it seems she’s started getting more critical comments since she hit one million Instagram followers on March 1.

On Tuesday morning, the “Anna” actress took to Instagram to share a post filled with six screenshots of critical comments targeting her looks, her age and her “mainly” lifestyle. One user told her she was “setting a bad example” while another added, “You absolutely do NOT represent what 58 looks like to most of us so why don’t you sit down?”

The comments came just a day after she posted a photo of herself standing in front of a fireplace in a black bikini. She topped off her look with knee-high black boots and a red sweater she knitted herself.

“Some thoughtful readers commented…” Paulina wrote in the caption. “I posted a photo of myself barely dressed, it got a lot of attention, and then the comments came. Most of you have been very supportive and understanding of what I’m trying to do in representing older women as still sexy and viable, and definitely invisible.”

“Then there are people who oppose. This is of course when the real conversation begins,” he explained. “A lot of the bad comments seem to focus on me needing validation – which is partly true, I need to be careful not to become invisible. You also call me out for promoting the objectification of women. This is also partly true, I work within the constraints set by thousands year.”

“However, the comment I liked the most was that because I’m tall and slim, I don’t have the right to represent women my age because I don’t look like a normal woman my age. I’m not trying to represent all women my age. How can I? How could anyone?” he asked. “Don’t we all look different and isn’t that where our beauty lies? In our uniqueness?”

“What’s really sad here is the obvious insecurity of women who can’t find space to love themselves. For what their bodies can do. For what they can feel,” she added. “Instead, they will compare , feeling wanting and ashamed for not measuring up, and turning to shame those who made them feel this way.”

“We can all only walk on our own feet, making our own unique footprints in the sand,” she concluded, closing her post with a variety of hashtags that included #sexyhasnoexpirationdate, #betweenjloandbettywhite, #graypride, #trolls, #foodforthought, and #celebratetheskinyourein.

Fans Flooded Her Comments With Positive Messages: ‘You Keep Doing You’

Fans flooded Paulina’s Instagram page with messages of support. “It’s interesting that there are directly opposite criticisms (‘you look better than other women your age because of genes/beauty treatments/etc’ and also ‘you look older than your age and need better grooming’ (??) ,” one fan “What that said to me is that as women, someone is always going to have a problem with us, so we might as well do what we want.”

“All these negative comments say more about them than about you. They have to deal with their own hang-ups. You keep doing you. We live in a paradigm that worships youth and beauty,” wrote another follower. “I imagine being a supermodel in where your appearance is so focused, it makes it even more challenging to embrace aging gracefully. I think you’re doing an amazing job.”

“Paulina you are a beautiful woman. Most women in big cities and fashionable cities get their own treatment. Aesthetics are more affordable these days so there’s no reason for hate to be thrown your way. Besides jealousy…” a third fan interjected.

“The honest words you spoke. Many of us struggle with body issues seeing someone less than them, triggering old traumas around our bodies and our values,” another follower wrote. “Your words and deeds set us free – so keep them coming. We might just be facing that mirror sooner than we think.”

“I love your post because it’s important for all of us to express ourselves, accept ourselves, love ourselves and encourage others to do the same. I am a completely different shape and have no illusions that I will ever/could/should ever be tall and slim,” shared another fan. “Not me, but it looks great on you! Nothing but positivity and support for all women! Thank you!”

“There are many things I would like to comment on here. But I’ll keep it classy. It’s your IG page. Post what you want,” another follower chimed in. “Haters and naysayers should unfollow him silently.”
