Model Paulina Porizkova, 58, Shares Untouched Vogue Cover: ‘What Sells Is What YOU Buy’
On Friday, the “Anna” actress took to Instagram to repost a sample of her Vogue magazine covers throughout the year curated by her friend Emanuel Chilo. In the caption, she revealed that the last two photos were taken when she was over 55, but felt she looked younger in the photos.
Although she made it clear that the last two photos were not retouched, she admitted that “they were both shot in the most flattering light by a very skilled photographer, after a long process of professional make-up and hair and clothes. And the photos chosen for the cover – which a model doesn’t say – is the picture that I look the best – and not coincidentally, the youngest.”
He went on to praise this month’s cover of Vogue magazine, which “features four famous beauties over fifty.” Paulina said, “They look great,” adding, “But they also don’t look over forty, whether it’s unusual genetics, amazing photography, cosmetic help or retouching.”

“Magazine covers are designed to grab your attention. They sell you fashion and cosmetics to help you either express yourself or hide yourself. On the bright side, they’re designed to inspire, let you dream, and entertain you,” he writes. “On the dark side, they’re designed to create shame with negative comparisons and make you buy something to mask that shame.”
“But it was YOU who took out the money. If you buy- you will continue to be offered similar items. Ultimately, representation depends on what is being sold. What sells is what YOU buy,” she concluded alongside the hashtags “Between JLo and Betty White,” “Vogue,” “Women Over 50,” “Older Is Bolder” and “Representation.”
Fans were quick to say that Paulina looked “beautiful” and “dazzling” in all the pictures. “Paulina whatever you sell, I buy! And by ‘buy’ I mean… (see what I did there?!?) your balanced nuance of beauty, always light, dark and beautiful in between. Thank you!” one fan commented, to which Paulina responded with a praying hands emoji.
Paulina Appears In Vogue Scandinavia February-March Issue
On January 31, Paulina posed on the cover of Vogue Scandinavia in a pink dress and black gloves. “I think I represent women in their 50s who look the same age. And I strongly feel that we need more representation,” he told the magazine at the time. In the caption, the magazine wrote:
“Swedish-Czech supermodel Paulina Porizkova bares it all as the cover star of our Feb-Mar issue, proving that beauty really does have age limits. Dealing with the complex experiences of growing older in the fashion industry, overcoming heartbreaking grief, and navigating midlife dating, Paulina discovers that – as she ages – she’s only wiser, more patient, more introspective. This is Paulina at the height of her powers.”
However, not everyone is a fan of his photoshoot. “This picture is very unattractive to Paulina. She is a beautiful woman with strong passion! The pose, the outfit, and the lighting are an injustice to who she is and what she represents!” a fan exclaimed but Paulina replied, “I love it.” The fan replied, “Then that’s the most important thing!”
“I am 56 years old. I understand you want to prove a point… but there are other things besides looks… I think you want to justify your decision … we don’t have to. Let’s be! And find satisfaction in our achievements. I don’t spend my time justifying my age… I don’t have to,” another follower wrote, to which Paulina kindly reminded them, “This is Instagram, a platform for taking pictures and I’m a model.”
