Pediatric nurse reveals most ridiculous things men say in the delivery room

Giving birth is truly an experience like no other.

After going through the experience myself last year, I’m in awe of what my body (and mind!) goes through and have a deeper appreciation for women than I thought.

After almost 15 hours of labor (with almost three of them pushing), when my little one was born, I was both shocked and exhausted.

Although I have incredible support from my husband, three amazing midwives and an encouraging OB, many women are unfortunately not so lucky.

Are you kidding me?

Pediatric nurse Anna Pascarella put those words to the disconcerting comment she overheard the father make in the delivery room, that if I had listened during labor, I would have signed the divorce papers along with the birth certificate.

From requests for the age-old “husband stitch” — the controversial extra stitches during postpartum vaginal repair — to sarcastic comments about how their partner’s bodies look after giving birth, Pascarella shares insight into the often surprising and confusing thoughts of some fathers.

In the TikTok video, Pascarella takes on the role of this unsuspecting father, mimicking their amazing words.

“Does it really hurt?” inquired one, while the other with feeling insisted, “No, no, no, he needs nothing for that pain.”

Financial concerns are also a focus, with some fathers balking at the cost of antenatal painkillers.

In one shocking example, a husband refused to pay an $8,000 ($5,300 USD) hospital bill, deeming his wife’s choice for an epidural a “luxury”.

“When do you think he will have a child? Because I’m very hungry and need to go get food,” asked the father-to-be.

“Why is it taking so long?” complained another.

One father felt the need to share the pain he was experiencing, “My back hurts so much from sleeping on that chair.”

There were complaints about women being too “hard” or not giving it their all, with one asking, “Are you really trying your best?” while his wife refused and threw up.

And one dad can’t let this call go to voicemail, telling his baby to Momma, “I can’t hold your hand right now, I have to take this call. I’ll be back in a minute.”

You have to go!

If I were one of the women in one of these scenarios, upset wouldn’t describe half of what I feel.

And if I was working in this environment, I might accidentally drop something very heavy on this dad’s leg when they weren’t looking!
