Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi played coy when asked if President Biden should drop out of the 2024 race — and then laughed off a question about whether Kamala Harris should once again be his running mate.
Pelosi, who announced last Friday that she is seeking re-election to Congress in 2024, was asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Wednesday night if she thought “there’s a chance [Biden] don’t keep running.”
“I hope not, I hope not,” he replied, avoiding a definitive answer.
“President Biden has — he has great experience and wisdom. He has been here for a long time, as you know, as a senator, vice president and now president,” said the former Speaker of the House, who is 83 himself.
“He has a vision for our country that is about justice and fairness and addressing the kitchen table of working families in America.”
He acknowledged “there may be concern” among Democrats about his age, but said, “everybody’s for him — mostly everybody’s for him.”

But some in his own party have raised questions about the 80-year-old president’s cognitive ability to lead after a series of confusions and confusions during his tenure at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll also found that 63% of Americans do not think Biden is mentally sharp enough to effectively run the country, and 62% believe Biden is not in good enough physical health to be in the Oval Office.
At the same time, the president faces an impeachment inquiry into his involvement in his son Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings.

In the midst of this scandal, Cooper asked Pelosi if she believed Vice President Kamala Harris was Biden’s best choice to run.
He just laughed at the question, while trying to avoid it – and quietly admitted that there was not much to the position.
“He [Biden] think so,” Pelosi replied. “And that’s what matters.”
He went on to call Harris, “politically astute,” noting that when he ran for Attorney General in California, he originally had only 6% support in the polls – but was able to turn that around.

“I don’t think people give him enough credit,” Pelosi said.
“His values are consistent with the values of the president. Why is he vice president if he’s not?” he asked.
When Cooper tried to press the California Democrat for a real answer on whether he believed Harris was the best running mate, the former House Speaker suggested the vice president didn’t do all that, but was an “intellectual resource.”
“He’s the Vice President of the United States. And when people say to me, ‘well, why doesn’t he do this or that?’ I said, ‘Because he’s the vice president. That’s the job description. You’re not doing that much,’” Pelosi said.
A spokesman for Pelosi said the Speaker “as usual, praised the Vice President – saying that he is values-based, politically savvy and represents our country well at home and abroad.”
Pelosi reiterated her support for the Biden-Harris team during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday.
“The Biden-Harris team is our team. We are very proud of him. And we will all work hard to ensure that they are re-elected,” he said.

President Biden specifically tapped Harris to handle the chaos at the US-Mexico border in March 2021. The chaos has yet to subside, and illegal crossings have broken records multiple times during the Biden administration.
