The young Massachusetts Air National Guardsman who leaked dozens of classified military documents online is being called an “active shooter kid” by his colleagues — and is raising some concerns that he could “shoot up” his workplace at Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod , according to a newly released document.
The Air Force Inspector General’s report, completed in August, found a pilot trying to warn superiors in 2022 Jack Teixeira, then 20, “exhibited a fringe thinking perspective” like Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, the Washington Post reported.
It was widely known at the base that the baby-faced Teixeira had been suspended in high school for threatening to “shoot up the school,” investigators found, prompting some fellow pilots to call him an “active shooter kid.”
He often talks about “living off the grid” so he can “blow stuff up,” a close colleague told his superiors.
“Out of all our training, this is a red flag, it hits all the leads,” one guard, whose name was redacted from the report, told Pentagon investigators.

The FBI recovered electronic equipment from a trash can at Teixeira’s mother’s home in North Dighton, Mass. AP
But supervisors dismissed their concerns, which date back to the summer of 2021.
Teixeira was charged in June with six counts of knowingly storing and transmitting national military information after illegally sharing dozens of classified documents on Discord for more than a year.
Teixeira, now 22, pleaded not guilty to the charges, and 15 members of the 102nd Intelligence Wing, including his former unit commander, were disciplined for failing to supervise him and neglecting to notify authorities of his espionage-like behavior.
