Phoebe Waller-Bridge Talks Her ‘Indiana Jones’ Future

Actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge is talking about the future of “Indiana Jones” after starring in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which made its debut at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Although star Harrison Ford stated that he was done with the franchise and suspended his sentence after starring in the blockbuster franchise for decades, it seems that Phoebe Waller-Bridge may be interested in reprising her role in the future.

On Thursday, Phoebe Waller-Bridge spoke to Deadline at the premiere of Disney’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” The three-time “Fleabag” Emmy winner played Helena Shaw, daughter of Indiana Jones, in the fifth film of the “Indiana Jones” franchise.

When asked what it was like to join the universe, he said, “I’m already a fan. I’m a huge fan and it was something I never imagined I’d be a part of. So every day feels like a dream.” He went on to call it a “beautiful closing chapter” for Ford, adding that he was “so proud to be a part of it.”

He was also asked about possibly taking over as the new “Indiana Jones” due to online speculation. “First I’ve heard of it,” Waller-Bridge responded with a bit of a tongue-and-cheek response.

When asked for an update on her Amazon plans, Phoebe Waller-Bridge replied, “It’s all Writer’s Strike at the moment, so, we’re all taking a break. But if that’s all settled, then I’ll be working on Tomb Raider.”

In January, Amazon Studios asked him to write a TV series as part of a potential “Tomb Raider” franchise that would include movies, series, and even games. He could also potentially star in the film, although it’s unclear who will play the lead role.

In May, Harrison Ford received the Cannes Palme D’Or honor ahead of the world premiere of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

This will mark the “Star Wars” alum’s fifth and final time as a celebrity archaeologist, following 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” 1984’s “Temple of Doom,” 1989’s “Last Crusade,” and 2008’s “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

The film festival played a career highlight reel set to John Williams’ “Star Wars” theme showing him from scenes in “Star Wars” as well as “Blade Runner,” “Working Girl,” “Air Force One,” “K9: The Widowmaker, ” “The Fugitive”, and “American Graffiti.”

In response to his latest accolade, the 80-year-old actor said, “I’m happy and honored… but I’ve got a movie you have to see.” He also joked about career highlights, adding, “They say before you die, you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just see my life flash before my eyes.”

In addition to his role in the new “Indiana Jones” movie, Ford has been making bigger appearances on the small screen. He currently stars in the Apple TV+ series “Shrink” alongside “How I Met Your Mother” alum Jason Segel, who has nothing but praise for Ford’s acting.

Jason Segel heaped praise on his “Shrink” costar in a June 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s a reason he’s Harrison Ford,” he said. “I did something with Robert Redford a few years ago, and it was the same experience, where you’re like, ‘Oh, I get it. You’re real.’ You feel in the room.”

He also went on to praise the actor’s improv comedy skills. “With Harrison Ford, there was a time when I saw him sign up and said, ‘Oh, we’re doing this now.’ And he’s good at it. He’s really good at it,” Segel said. “There was a whole potato run, where I ended up eating this potato. [He said] ‘Do whatever you want with them. Boil, burn.’ That’s the riff that comes out of his mouth. He’s really smart, he’s really funny and he really understands acting.”

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” hits theaters later this month.
