Piyush Gurbhele started his career as a dancer in 2017 with the television dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance Season 6.’ The Zee TV show was hosted by Mudassar Khan, Marzi Pestonji, and Mini Pradhan, and co-hosted by Sahil Khattar and Amruta Khanvilkar. Piyush auditioned for the show and impressed the judges with his dancing skills after which he was selected by mentor Mini Pradhan for his team ‘Mini to master blaster.’ Piyush refined his skills with every passing performance and gained popularity for his dancing skills. Piyush was one of the favorite contestants of the Master Mithun Chakraborty jury and became the 2nd runner up of the show.

Piyush Gurbhele after becoming a popular dancing face in India decided to use his existing dancing skills and strive to become a dance choreographer for which he moved to West Bengal and joined the Dance Addiction Dance Academy there. Piyush participated in several dance and choreography workshops organized at the academy. After improving his skills as a choreographer, Piyush collaborated with Sanket Gaonkar, his best friend he made at Dance India Dance. They created a dance academy called ‘Sankush,’ derived from the names Sanket and Piyush. San in Sankush means Sanket and ush means Piyush. Their association organizes dance classes across the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal.

Piyush Gurbhele got a breakthrough for his career after participating in the Indian dance reality show ‘Dance Deewane Season 3.’ The show co-hosted by Raghav Juyal, Bharti Singh, and Haarsh Limbachiyaa has Madhuri Dixit, Dharmesh Yelande, and Tushar Kalia as the master judges, and the show has been aired on Colors TV in 2021. Piyush auditioned for the show while performing at Dharmesh Yelande’s iconic dance sketch to flute music and managed to impress the judges with his dancing skills. After qualifying for the show, she was paired with dancer and choreographer Rupesh Soni for the show. The duo of Piyush and Rupesh emerged as one of the best pairings of Dance Deewane Season 3 delivering some amazing performances in the show.
The finale of the dance show took place on 10 October 2021, where Piyush Gurbhele and Rupesh Soni were announced as the winners of Dance Deewane Season 3, beating other finalists Sohail Khan-Vishal Sonkar, Gunjan Sinha-Sagar Bora, Aman Kumar Raj- Yogesh Sharma, Somansh Dangwal- Akash Thapa, and Soochana Chorge-Vaishnavi Patil. Piyush and Rupesh were awarded a gold trophy and a cash prize of Rs 40 lakh. Piyush Gurbhele, in an interaction with several media houses, after winning the show, shared his experience. He said,
There were many ups and downs in our journey, like everyone’s. There are times when our performance fails, even when our graphs are performing well. After that happened, we were a little scared. But the journey was very enjoyable and I got to learn a lot from Rupesh bhai. After it became a ‘duo’ show we had to perform together. Right before the winner was announced, I was very quiet and nervous while the others relaxed. They even joked about how tense I was, but all I could think about at that point was winning the show. When they announced my name as the winner, I couldn’t believe it; I was too shocked to react at first. But I cried and screamed with joy. It was a great feeling to hold the trophy. It was a really great trip.”
His dance partner and choreographer Rupesh Soni added,
I think all our hard work paid off. When I agreed to perform, I didn’t think about winning. All I think about is doing my best because thinking about winning takes the focus away from performing.”

- Piyush Gurbhele considers Dharmesh Yelande as his biggest inspiration for dance. She auditioned for ‘Dance Deewane’ at the same track where Dharmesh auditioned for the first time, also carrying a similar look like him. Piyush, in an interview, said that Dharmesh helped him throughout his journey in Dance Deewane. Talking about Dharmesh Yelande, he said,
He always takes my autograph after I give a good performance. When we were announced as winners, I hugged Dharmesh sir and he said that I have done well all the time. And whenever he is around, he will always motivate me; I feel so positive around him. After every performance, he always tells me what will help me do better in the next performance. I’m going to miss him and the way he appreciated our early performances.”

My father and brother always supported me when I showed interest in dance. My mother was happy with my interest in dancing, but she felt I should study hard and get a good job. My mother wasn’t against it at all, but she didn’t like it when I went to my dance class and spent all my time dancing.”
- Piyush Gurbhele, in his childhood, gave his first dance audition for Zee TV’s dance competition reality television series ‘Dance India Dance Li’l Champs.’ He cleared the first round but couldn’t make it to the Mumbai auditions.
- Piyush Gurbhele credits his dance coach Amol Gotekar as one of the main contributors to his success. Amol Gotekar after knowing Piyush’s financial situation trained him for free in his dance academy named ‘Poisonous rock star Dance Academy.’ Piyush Gurbhele, in an interview, said,
I couldn’t pay my dance class fees, so my head used to teach me to dance for free. She has been teaching me to dance for the past 12 years. Many times he also gave me money to buy shoes and travel. He has been a great support to me.”
