A popular chiropractor in Washington State and her husband have been missing since earlier this week – and their family believes they may have been kidnapped.
“It doesn’t look like they left willingly,” Pauline Dutton told The Post of her sister, Karen Koep, 62, and her husband, Davido, who were both reported missing on Monday.
Authorities conducted a welfare check at the couple’s home in Lacey because one of them failed to report to work, the Thurston County Sheriff said in a statement. However, it is not clear when they disappeared.
“I don’t really know that anyone has heard from them after Friday afternoon,” Dutton told The Post.
The couple’s gray Toyota hatchback disappeared from their residence, but was later found in nearby Olympia, the sheriff’s office explained.
“The circumstances surrounding their disappearance are suspicious,” the media release said.
Four days into the investigation, Dutton said the family has faith in the “excellent sheriff’s department” that is “working hard on this.”
“It’s important that we allow the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department to do their job because my sister knows a lot of those people…and they do better,” he explained.
Everyone in the family has also taken a role in the search, Dutton added.
“We treat this like a triage emergency,” he said.
The sheriff’s public announcement of the couple’s disappearance was also flooded with comments from patients who frequent Koep’s chiropractic clinic.
“Karen was my CP for many years. He is an extraordinary person. I pray they are found safe,” wrote one commenter.

“Karen has been our DC since 1999. I can’t believe I’m reading this! I don’t know what to say or do because he has such an important part in my whole family’s life,” added another.
The outside of Lacey Koep’s office was also lined with flowers under a sign on the door that said “Due to an emergency, Lacey Chiropractic is closed,” FOX 13 reported.
Patient Kiera Polk knew something was wrong when she called the office for an appointment and it went straight to voicemail, she told the outlet.
“I called his office yesterday morning because I needed to talk to him about some things, but it went to voicemail, which I thought was weird, but usually Tuesday is their admin day, so I thought they were out of the office,” he explained.

“[I am] in a state of shock and I pray that she and her husband are found safe,” she added.
Koep, Polk said, is part of the community.
“She’ll fight for you, she’ll make sure you’re well taken care of, just a great chiropractor and an amazing woman,” he said.
“I just hope they’re found safe, and he goes home.”
Another patient, Jim Phillips, also stopped by Lacey Koep’s office Wednesday to see if police had any updates, KING 5 reported.
“It was very painful. We also very much hope that he will show, without injury,” he told the outlet.

Other local residents are disturbed by the alarming case that happened so close.
“I think it’s a pretty quiet neighborhood in general,” Stephanie Krupp told FOX 13 of Lake Forest Community, where Koep and Davido live.
Koep’s loved ones “try to keep people from polluting the water, because naturally people want to help, but that can be a hindrance,” Dutton said.
“The most important thing to know is that my sister is a woman of integrity and faith, and she is very strong-willed.”
Davido legally changed his name to a single name from David William Cannizzo sometime in the 1990s, court summaries seen by The Post show.
The 68-year-old has a criminal record including a charge of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, public records show.
“I was scared for it, but it seems like it was a long time ago…but you never know,” Dutton said when asked if he thought Davido’s past problems might be related to the couple’s departure.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

One of the couple’s two grown sons, Justice Dutton, told RAJA 5 that the family appreciates the public’s positive thoughts as the investigation continues.
“We are very moved by so many people who have shown love and support to my mother and father,” he said.
Judge Dutton declined to offer a verbal statement to The Post when reached by phone Thursday.
