Powerball and Mega Millions prizes continue to rise to a combined $648M

The Powerball and Mega Millions lottery jackpots have reached a combined $648 million as they continue to rise after the latest drawing produced no winners.

The Powerball jackpot reached its current level – an estimated $340 million – after its latest drawing on Wednesday evening did not produce a top prize winner. The annuity option, which is also available for Mega Millions, represents annual payments over three decades.

It had a $156.5 million cash value as of Friday, according to the lottery.

Wednesday’s Powerball drawing produced four Match 5 winners and one Match 5 + Power Play.

For Mega Millions, the annuitized jackpot is estimated at $308 million. The cash option is $142.1 million.

A Mega Millions player in New Jersey won a smaller but still big windfall on Tuesday, although no one hit the jackpot. The person won $1 million from the Game 5 win, the lottery website said.

The Powerball jackpot has seen an $18 million increase from earlier this week. Meanwhile, Mega Millions posted a slight increase of $19 million.

The top prize for the lottery came in at a combined $286.1 million in lump sum.

Mega Millions players will get another crack at the prizes on Friday.

Mega Millions and Powerball have also seen their respective top prizes rise above the billion dollar mark. More recently, in mid-October, someone in Southern California had a ticket with a number that matched the last one drawn for a $1.765 billion jackpot, giving them a big win, according to Powerball.

In August, a player won the $1.602 billion Mega Millions jackpot. The top prize, won in Florida, was claimed in late September.
