Pregnant ‘RHOA’ Star Sanya Richards-Ross Reflects On Past ‘Traumatic’ Miscarriage

Sanya Richards-Ross has opened up about her traumatic experience with a miscarriage.

Although she is expecting her second child with her husband, former NFL player Aaron Ross, this particular pregnancy will not be featured in the ongoing episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” season 15. Instead, the reality star will focus on getting over the terrifying upheaval of losing a month’s pregnancy before resuming.

Sanya Richards-Ross Loses Pregnancy During Trip To New York

Viewers were thrilled as “RHOA” cameras documented Sanya’s emotional journey to become pregnant with her second baby. In fact, series lovers got a glimpse of the happy moment she found out she was pregnant, as teased in the mid-season trailer released earlier this month.

However, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the Jamaican-American sadly shared that she suffered a miscarriage almost two months later. As he told the publication:

“It was very traumatic. I was in New York and had a really bad miscarriage. I had to go to the hospital. I had to undergo a blood transfusion. It was very, very, very scary. You’ve opened your heart to being a mother, so it’s terrible. Even just talking about it.…It was really a tough time.”

Her painful pregnancy loss soon became a turning point for the track and field athlete, who shares a nearly six-year-old son, Aaron Jermaine, with her man. For starters, the incident made her hesitant to have any more children, especially after she went through a period of significant change in her life, which eventually brought stability.

The pregnant celebrity noted that many mothers can resonate with the sentiment of wondering what their identity is outside of being a housewife. Sanya added:

“I used to be an athlete, competing all over the world while representing Team USA. Then, after retiring from sports and having a son, all these life changes hit Ross and me simultaneously. It was like a tornado hit our relationship for 14 years before having our son. [It] like a honeymoon at that time. And it’s really exciting.”

After pleading not to be misunderstood and stating that she and Aaron “love being parents,” she continued, “But over the years, we’ve just found a good rhythm where we finally figure out how we want to be parents. We have a balance in where we communicate well again, finally I’m working again… And so I’m doubtful about having another child.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the 38-year-old admits to feeling lucky for picking up so quickly after the miscarriage. About that, he stated with a laugh, “I didn’t think it would happen this soon again. But my husband, he is proud of himself. He was like, ‘I never miss a beat. Whenever you’re ready, I’m ready.”

Regarding her involvement in the long-running “RHOA,” The Blast reported in September 2021 that discussions were underway about the extent of her role in the 14th season. And it turns out, this isn’t Sanya’s first time on reality television as she has starred in her own WEtv series titled “Sanya’s Glam & Gold,” which has lasted for one season.

The show provided a glimpse into her and Aaron’s life, with their wedding featured on pay-TV’s “Platinum Weddings” in 2010. While there’s been no official word on the Olympian’s involvement in the popular Bravo franchise at the time, there’s no doubt that it needed a shake-up.

The show has faced criticism for lack of excitement in its 13th season, leading to speculation that the producers may consider introducing new cast members in future seasons to inject fresh energy into the series.

And Sanya seems like the perfect fit as she has gained attention for joining forces with the likes of Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka to support mental and physical health awareness during the widely watched match. She bravely shared her personal story, revealing that in 2008, she had an abortion shortly before participating in the Olympics.

Looking back on that challenging time, the athlete emphasized that his mental and physical strength played an important role in overcoming the difficult situation. His honesty and courage in sharing such experiences has resonated with many people.
