Pregnant Texas teen, boyfriend — on probation for assaulting her — found in car died from gunshot wounds, police reveal

A pregnant Texas teenager who was found dead just days after she was set to be set up, along with her boyfriend, died of gunshot wounds, family and police said Wednesday.

Savanah Nicole Soto, 18, and her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra, 22, were found dead from gunshot wounds in their Kia Optima on Tuesday, KSAT said, citing the victim’s relatives and San Antonio police.

An unborn baby was also pronounced dead at the scene, the report added.

Although police have not officially confirmed the victim’s identity, Soto’s sister-in-law, Joanie Wasil, told KSAT that she was contacted by someone on Facebook saying they recognized the car, which prompted her to report the discovery to authorities.

Concerned family also went to the scene, where Wasil said he saw Soto dead in the front passenger seat and Guerra in the back.

Wasil took one look at Soto’s face “and didn’t want to see it again,” he told KSAT.

The San Antonio Police Department did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Soto was last seen on Friday evening, and raised concerns for his family when he failed to show up at the hospital for a scheduled induction on Saturday.

The Leon Valley teenager’s loved ones were also unable to reach Guerra, they said at the time.

Their tragic deaths are being investigated as “possible homicides,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Tuesday.

At the time of the couple’s disappearance, Guerra was already on probation for assaulting Soto on Christmas Day 2022, News4SanAntonio reported, citing court documents.

Guerra was also arrested on December 29, 2022, for contacting Soto personally, which violated his bail conditions on the assault charge, the outlet explained.

In June, a judge granted Guerra probation for a domestic violence case, and allowed him to have contact with Soto as long as it was not “harmful or injurious,” according to the newspaper.

As part of his probation, Guerra is also prohibited from possessing firearms.

The trial was initially set to end in June 2024, but a judge extended the rap to February 2025 after Guerra picked up additional, unrelated charges including unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading arrest in a vehicle and reckless driving, court dockets show.

The 22-year-old was also punished for failing to comply with the Batter Intervention and Prevention Program, which he was ordered to complete.

“Do you think it’s normal that he’s not wearing an ankle monitor with this arrest history?” News4SanAntonio reporter Mariah Medina asked a local attorney about X Wednesday with screenshots of Guerra’s lengthy criminal history over the past 12 months.

Before the couple’s bodies were found, the Soto family also implied that Guerra abused the young mother-to-be.

“I will not let you become one of the statistics of what happens when you have an abusive boyfriend,” Wasil wrote on Facebook along with several photos.

Wasil told KSAT this week that Soto is really focused on being a mother.

“That’s all she talked about since she was pregnant… That’s her life,” said the sister-in-law. “She’s so ready to be a mother. I think she should be.”

Hernandez previously deleted a post in which he insisted that “I know my son and he would never do anything to hurt [Savanah].”

Brother Guerra also gave an update in an emotional Facebook video.

“My brother has a lot of enemies, he has a lot of enemies in San Antonio,” the worried brother said in the Monday clip.

“It’s not like I’m a brother at all,” he added of the couple’s loss.

The tragic deaths of Soto, Guerra and their son come less than two years after the teenager’s younger brother, 15-year-old Ethan, was shot and killed in May 2022, KSAT added.

The Soto family attacked Ethan’s alleged killer, Victor Nathaneal Rivas, in court in October.

Rivas is still awaiting trial, KSAT said.

Ethan is believed to have been killed in a fight over a drug robbery, the outlet explained.
