In July 2022, he courted controversy when he was arrested in a money laundering case worth 31 crore rupees by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He was charged under sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. Earlier, he was arrested by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) in 2018 on a complaint by Indian film financier Vashu Bhagnani of Rs 31.6 crore for defrauding him.
