Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has been labeled a “pathological liar” after arguing that his glamorous daughter lives in “Spartan conditions” and struggles to make ends meet while studying in Paris.
Elizaveta Peskova, 25, who owns a successful event planning business and runs a Russian-French cultural foundation, spent years living with her mother in Europe, before returning to Moscow about 5 years ago and graduating with honors from the Moscow State prestigious Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).
But her father insists that his jet-setting daughter, whose Instagram page is full of photos of the statuesque blonde posing in expensive clothes, never became a “mazhor” – a Russian slang term similar to “nepo-baby” used to describe children- the children of government officials and privileged businessmen, as The Times first reported.

Peskova moved to the City of Lights with her mother, Ekaterina Solotsinskaya, 47, after her parents separated, and lived there for years, attending a boarding school and then enrolling at the EDC Paris Business School.
“My daughter has never been a ‘mazhor’ child,” Peskov insisted in an interview with student television channel MGIMO 360 that was broadcast on its YouTube channel on Friday. “He had a very complicated life, a complicated education.”
Peskov claimed that while he spent time studying in France, Elizaveta “lived there very cleanly, in very Spartan conditions, and never became a ‘mazhor’.”

“She had to overcome a great number of difficulties, she spent a long time to find herself, and thank God she is now settled…and has become a career woman,” added the president’s spokesperson.
Asked by the sarcastic interviewer how he was able to instill good qualities in his daughter, Peskov, 56, said Elizaveta learned life’s lessons from facing difficulties.
“It’s one thing if you’re really a ‘mazhor‘ and you live big, when you have nothing to aspire to, but it’s another thing when every day you have to overcome problems: where to rent a house cheaper, how to save money so you can buy yourself jeans new at the end of this month,” he said.

The interviewer followed up by asking if Peskov purposely sent his daughter to study abroad so that she could learn to fend for herself, to which the high-ranking Kremlin official – who is a relentless critic of the West and Western values - coyly replied that “it was a different time then.”
Lyubov Sobol, an aide to jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, applauded Peskov’s claims, sharing a photo of Elizaveta Peskova lounging on what looked like a private jet and writing in the caption: “Spartan conditions according to pathological liar Peskov. “
An investigation by Navalny’s anti-corruption foundation previously revealed that Peskova and her mother allegedly bought an apartment in central Paris for nearly $2 million through a French company called Sirius.
Peskova is part owner of an events company called Centrum Moscow, whose clients include the Russian Ministry of Trade and Industry, and other government agencies.

In March this year, the company increased its revenue 70 times compared to the same time in 2022, raking in about $1.77 million, the independent newspaper Verstka reported.
Peskova is also the vice-president of the Foundation for the Development of Russian-French Historical Initiatives, co-founded by Frenchman Pierre Malinowski, who is said to have close ties to well-connected Russian oligarchs.
The US Treasury last year allowed Peskov, his daughter and other family members to claim that they lived a “luxurious lifestyle that was not commensurate with Peskov’s civil servant salary.” Peskov has been Putin’s spokesman since 2012.

The EU has also added Peskova to its sanctions list, citing her ties “to listed persons who actively support actions or policies that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as well as stability and security in Ukraine.”
In an Instagram post shared with her 225,000 followers in April, Peskova bragged that she “got a lot” from her work on various projects.
