Quavo Addresses Nephew Takeoff’s Passing For The First Time In Interview: ‘I Think About Him All The Time’

Quavo continues to be inspired by his late nephew Take Off! The entertainer kept Unc & Phew’s memory alive with his latest dedication to his much-missed brother.

Following the death of his Migos bandmate, the Hip-hop star has paid tribute to the late rapper with a variety of tributes, from heartfelt messages to songs. But the 32-year-old man has never sat down to discuss the impact of his loved one’s passing until now.

While promoting his upcoming album, “Rocket Power,” the Athens native opened up about creating a studio project for the late musician. Most notably, the part-owner of FCF Glacier Boyz discusses how he navigated life with a broken heart.

It’s common for trap rappers to show vulnerability because they usually seem confident. However, the “Bad and Boujee” artist gave fans an honest look at her vulnerable side in a new interview on her YouTube channel.

The footage, captioned “A Conversation For The Fans #RocketPower,” captures the musician’s first intimate discussion about Takeoff’s death. As seen in the black-and-white footage, the 32-year-old is dressed casually in a long-sleeved graphic top, jeans and sneakers.

The Athens native sat on a cushion in front of the film crew, where an interviewer asked questions in the background. In the clip, a question appears on the screen before the “Greatness” rapper answers.

When asked how she deals with grief, the media personality said she has learned the importance of isolation because not everyone has her best interests at heart. In chart-topping words:

“Isolate yourself. Sometimes being around people you don’t know, especially in spaces where you like being sad or feeling vulnerable. You don’t know if they like to still try to keep you there or lift your spirits.”

The AMA winner continued, “Even if they’re saying positive things, you have to find like a place inside of you where you can handle like all the words, all the comments, all the opinions. And once you know that, you can go out and be around people, so it doesn’t affect you.”

Recalling a moment that tested her patience at this year’s Super Bowl, the “Honey Bun” singer revealed someone had yelled “something crazy” at her. While he didn’t share the person’s rude comments, Quavo insisted that it took “everything in the world” not to “smash” the individual’s face.

Instead of giving in to anger, the 32-year-old took comfort from the bad things he’s been through, perhaps referencing his presence at Takeoff’s fatal shooting. According to the Huncho Jack member, he took the incident as a test from God to see his physical and mental growth.

“When you see things that test you, and you’re not ready, and you’re in pain, it can put you in a messed up place,” the media personality said. “It can put you in a bad spot, and right now, I’m just bottled up, and I feel like, like I said, I feel like it’s just Rocket Power.”

Explaining the concept behind his new album, the show host said: “With a rocket, you just hold all the energy, hold all the tears, hold all the emotions in one place. Let it all come out in a space like art or a place you like, you know where you want to express yourself.”

During the emotional interview, the 32-year-old was asked about the lessons he learned from his late nephew. With a sad smile, Quavo said, “Come as you are and go as you go. You know, good, calm and collective.”

“Notice everything, keep a lot of things quiet, keep a lot of things to yourself,” the entertainer continued before pausing as emotion got the better of him. “A lot of stuff, a lot of stuff, friend. I just, I miss him so much, and I love him. He knows I love him.”

The “Hotel Lobby” artist stated that his love for the late rapper will never end and assured fans that whenever he goes about his life, Takeoff is always on his mind. In the words of the Migos frontman:

“When you look at me and see me smile and then something like that, and you don’t have to think like I’m forgetting them or I’m forgetting them. I always think about them.”

“Sometimes I cry myself to sleep, you know, and that’s it, and I just – I just know you’re here. I know I can’t – if I can’t feel them, I just know you’re there,” Quavo concluded, adding that he stopped using the word “crazy” to describe his feelings about Takeoff’s departure.
