Hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Will Arnett performed a mini comedy skit before he took the stage to accept his prize. Although during his acceptance speech, he seemed unperturbed as Kimmel lay at his feet jokingly protesting his loss for the same category, the internet was happy with his actions.
They accused him of trying to steal the spotlight from black women at a crucial time in his career. Some write things like “Quinta Brunson deserves better than giving her reception over Jimmy Kimmel’s “dead” corpse,” and their feeling that the late-night show host owes the “iZombie” cast an apology.
Although the internet feels belittled, the 32-year-old remains undeterred. The actress who made history as the second black woman to win the category answered questions about the controversy in a press conference with Diversity, said, “I know Jimmy Kimmel, and I don’t know, I don’t think it bothers me that much. I don’t know what the internet is thinking….”
He spoke about the 54-year-old host’s impact on making his show a success and how he positively impacted his career as the godfather of comedy. The Philadelphia native took some time to get cheeky, saying that even if she’s happy today, he might be mad at her tomorrow and even punched her in the face when she made an appearance on her own show.

The “Big Mouth” guest star revealed that he didn’t expect his brainchild, inspired by his high school days, to gain so much momentum in such a short time. In February, The Blast shared that her character was supposed to be a minor character but was pushed out as a major character when the series opened.
Brunson plays an impoverished teacher with charisma who will do anything for his students while battling a dark side that stems from his lack of childhood friends and insecurities since he was a child.
Due to its reception, the series has quadrupled its ratings since its inception, and he explained to Harpers Bazaar that he was overwhelmed and happy to receive such a positive response with only a few episodes airing.
He felt so grateful that he almost quit Twitter because of how positive the messages and comments were. Adding, “I’m a child of the internet, but at the end of the day, the ratings are still a big indicator of how well the network thinks of the show.”
