Rachel Morin’s family throws Hail Mary pass across the country to try to drum up leads in slaying: ‘Why my daughter?’

The Maryland mother of five who was found dead on a hiking trail three months ago says police have almost no leads in the puzzling case — so she’s throwing Hail Mary passes around the country to try to raise awareness.

Patty Morin, whose 37-year-old daughter Rachel Morin was found dead on a hiking trail in Bel Air, Md., told Fox News Digital that the family distributed more than 10,000 English-Spanish flyers in Los Angeles for information — since DNA from the scene has matched a man who is bound by sexual assault there.

“I’m praying that someone, maybe someone who has had a similar experience, will have compassion and help in identifying this person,” Patty told the outlet of potential suspects.

“We’re literally sitting in limbo and can’t move because we have no answers, no direction,” the mother said.

Rachel was found dead on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail in the Maryland community on August 6, less than 24 hours after her boyfriend reported her missing.

DNA from the scene was later matched to a man tied to a home invasion and assault of a young girl in Los Angeles in March. The man’s identity is unknown.

Although authorities have not released the address of the attack in Los Angeles, lawyers representing Morin’s family claim they have determined the exact location by comparing surveillance footage of the suspect with satellite maps, Fox News Digital explained.

The bilingual flyer will target this area and is expected to reach approximately 58,000 people.

“We haven’t seen any viable leads coming out of the sheriff’s department, so we’re trying to create our own set of leads any way we can,” family attorney Randolph Rice told the outlet.

A criminal profiler told law enforcement that the suspect — previously described as a man in his 20s weighing about 160 pounds and 5 feet tall — may have ties to the Los Angeles area, Rice said.

Patty Morin said of her slain daughter, “She filled so many of our lives with laughter and light.

“Even when he’s had a bad day, he still shines. There’s such an empty void.”

The children of fitness enthusiasts who die are the hardest, says the mother.

“As the holidays are approaching, I’m afraid there will be a deafening silence that will overshadow our meeting,” said Patty.

DNA at the scene linked Morin’s murder to a suspect in a home invasion and assault on a young girl in Los Angeles about five months earlier.

“They just want their mother back and their lives to be normal, and for some older people, they know that’s never going to happen.

“We don’t know why he committed such a horrible murder. Why my daughter?” he asked the killer.

“That means no one is safe until he is caught and imprisoned for life.”
