Romano shocked Marc Maron on Monday’s episode of the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast when he revealed that his heart is so clogged that it’s basically a walking time bomb. 90% of the Toy Story actor’s heart stopped.
Romano didn’t dwell on what might have happened, however, “I was kind of lucky that we found it before we had it [widow-maker] heart attack.” Romano admits that the illness didn’t surprise him.
She had been battling high cholesterol for 20 years but would always refuse the medication her doctor prescribed to help manage the condition. “Every time, I said, ‘Let me do it myself.’ And I’d go home, eat right — not vegan, but a little healthier — and cut out a few ticks,” she recalls.
But it was never enough for the actor to keep it going.

The Everybody Loves Raymond the actor feels on top of the world when he masters his cholesterol,, leading to a false sense of entitlement over his health. “I’ll come home and think I’m hot s–t. I’ve done it, and I’ll start cheating, and that’s the cycle,” he said.
Her doctor said that her high cholesterol didn’t necessarily put her “at risk” but that she should monitor it, and then boom! Surgery is required. Today, Romano followed orders.
“Now, I’m taking medicine,” he admitted to Maron, who casually cheered his friend on to take the plunge. Believe it or not, agreeing to take medication should be a choice taken seriously. He admits that if he “could go back 20 years,” he would have just started medication.
Nowadays, for Romano, “It’s hard for me to keep the diet thing going,” so it’s medicine to win!

My sugar level is now up,” he said with a laugh. “I’m on the pre-diabetic side.”
Earlier this month, before revealing the surgery, Romano went into more detail about the day he realized something was wrong with his body. While directing his upcoming film Somewhere in Queenshe had to cancel several appointments.
“I called my agent one morning because I couldn’t sleep. I went, ‘I can’t do it, can’t do this,'” she revealed to Entertainment Tonight. “Because — I’m not kidding — I had to go to my cardiologist in New York and get on a treadmill and do a stress test because I had chest pains.”
Thankfully, Romano has moved past this difficult period in his life and returned to the things he loves; acting and directing.
