Actress Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth announced their divorce last month after eleven years of marriage.
The couple waited about a week to officially file the documents after posting a statement on Instagram last week announcing they were going their separate ways.

According to new court documents obtained by TMZ, Reese Witherspoon has officially filed for divorce from Jim Toth citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. Court documents were filed in Nashville, Tennessee, where the couple raised their 10-year-old son, Tennessee James.
Legal filings reveal that she and Jim signed a prenuptial agreement in March 2011 and both parties agreed that the agreement was valid. The pre-nup covers “adequate and sufficient provisions” for their assets and debts. Going forward, the “Legally Blonde” actress says she plans to submit a pre-nuptial, and permanent parenting plan for their child, to a judge for approval.
In Davidson County, where the former couple filed for divorce, both parents are required to take mandatory parenting classes. Both will have at least sixty days to submit this class completion certificate to the court.
The former couple first revealed their engagement in December 2010. They tied the knot in March 2011 at a private ranch in California. The couple have only one ten-year-old son together named Tennessee James; however, the “Sweet Home Alabama” actress also shares two children with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe: Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19. Witherspoon was married to the “Cruel Intentions” actor from 1999 to 2008.

On March 24, 2023, the couple posted a brief statement announcing their divorce to Instagram signed “Reese and Jim.”
“We have some personal news to share… With great care and consideration we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said. “We have enjoyed wonderful years together and move forward with love, kindness, and mutual respect for all that we create together.”
“Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter,” they added. “This is never easy and very personal. We really appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”

Fans were shocked to hear that the couple called it quits just days before their 12-year wedding anniversary. The news of their divorce comes just days after the “Water for Elephants” actor celebrated his birthday on March 22.
However, an insider told PEOPLE that the split was a “good decision” and that the two are committed to co-parenting their ten-year-old son.
“They really are best friends and this is a good decision. They are so committed to being parents together,” the insider said. “They’re invested in their whole family and making it as smooth as possible for everyone.”

The Sun reports that Toth seems to be going through a “mid-life crisis”, claiming that “The separation process really began in late 2021 when it became clear to everyone who knew them both that they were itching to live apart from each other.”
