Regina King Mourns Late Son On His Posthumous Birthday: ‘I See You In Everything I Breath’

Oscar winner Regina King is still grieving the loss of her son Ian Alexander Jr.

The up-and-coming DJ took his own life in January last year, days after sharing some haunting posts on Twitter.

King, who took an Instagram hiatus after his death, recently took to the social media platform to honor his son on his posthumous birthday while saying he was still processing his physical absence.

Shortly after her post, fans and friends wished the actress “strength” and “peace” over the loss of her son.

Regina King Says She’s ‘Still Processing’ Son Ian’s ‘Physical Absence’

King revealed he is still mourning his son’s death almost a year after the 26-year-old took his own life.

She took to Instagram to post a clip of an orange sky lantern drifting through the dark sky on Friday, seemingly referencing her late son’s eternal place in her heart.

“January 19th is Ian’s Honor Day,” the 52-year-old wrote in the post, marking his return to the social media platform since his son’s death. “As we are still processing his physical absence, we celebrate his presence.

He added, “We’re all in different places on the planet…so is Ian. His spirit is the thread that connects us. Of course, orange is your favorite color… It is fire and calm.”

King then ended the post with a heartfelt speech about how he still felt a close connection to her despite her death.

He wrote, “I see you in everything I breathe. My favorite thing about myself is ….Regina is the mother of Ian the GodKing. Keep shining bright, my guiding light.”

Fans Pray For Regina King ‘Strength’ And ‘Peace’

In the comments section of the post, fans and friends wished the Oscar winner “strength” and “peace” as they mourned the loss of their son.

“We still celebrate your presence forever, Ian. I love you forever,” “Empire” star Taraji. P. Henson said.

One fan said, “My friend. I think about you often. I always pray for your strength & peace in the midst of loss and grief. I love you.”

Another follower wrote, “Sending love, light, strength, peace of mind, body and spirit to you, Queen. We love you unconditionally, and we love and respect GodKing Ian.”

An empathetic fan of the actress wrote, “I’m so happy to see your post! I always think of you! Grieving is a process, and as such, you take all the time you need to do so.”

Ian’s Last Haunting Message

Before Ian’s death, he had left subtle hints that he was battling many personal issues, which apparently had driven him to take his own life.

“You know that SpongeBob episode where they go inside his brain, and it’s a bunch of mini spongebobs that just lose their shit…..yeah, that one really hit,” the deceased DJ posted on Twitter a few days before he committed suicide.

At the time, she also posted an image depicting her exact comments, which she followed up with a tweet about how Instagram was harmful to her.

“I think Instagram is not healthy for me,” he said wrote on his page.

King welcomed her son in 1996 with ex-husband record producer Ian Alexander Sr. The couple tied the knot in 1997 but ended their relationship in 2007.

After Ian’s death, King asked for privacy to deal with his loss in a statement to People magazine.

“Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian,” the actress said at the time. “She was a bright light who cared deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you.”

It took King nearly six months to return to the red carpet, and he did so when he was recognized at the Italian Film Festival awards ceremony in the Sicilian village of Santa Margherita di Pula.

She was asked to attend the ceremony as the winner of the Women in Power award, which she shared with her friend Naomie Harris.
