US representative for New York’s 3rd congressional district George Santos is in legal hot water!
The Republican who allegedly became infamous for numerous lies, exaggerations, and outright misrepresentations about his campaign finances and personal background has been indicted federally. While information about the nature of the job is still emerging, several people, including comedian Chelsea Handler, have called for the politician to resign.

While the details of the federal charges filed in the eastern district of New York remain sealed, it is reported that he is expected to appear in court as early as today. During his short tenure in office, Santos has been accused of exhibiting corrupt practices, including violating campaign finance laws, orchestrating credit card fraud schemes, and lying about where he went to school and worked.
He has also been accused of stealing money for dead Iraq War veterans’ service dogs. The veteran, Richard Osthoff, claims the scam happened in 2016 when he was staying in a New Jersey tent along a highway with his dog, Sapphire.

Things take a turn for the worse for Osthoff when Sapphire falls ill and is diagnosed with a stomach tumor that requires surgery. Unfortunately, he was unable to pay the $3,000 bill, causing him to look elsewhere for help.
The old timer soon met Santos, who goes by the name Anthony Devolder and apparently runs a pet charity called ‘Friends of Pets United.’ The politician neglected to mention that he used one of the many aliases formed from his legal name — George Anthony Devolder Santos — and promised to help Osthoff.
To that end, he set up a GoFundMe page for the Sapphire procedure. However, the embattled congressman shut down the page when it hit the $3,000 mark and became “increasingly difficult to contact,” even though he asked Osthoff to take the pet to another vet clinic he recommended.
The veteran soon discovered that his dog’s tumor was inoperable, and Santos used the money from the campaign for “another dog.” Sapphire graduated the following year, leading Navy retirees to seek legal redress for fraud and losses.
The Blast reported that Osthoff saw the alleged fraud as wire and charity fraud and called the lawmaker a fraud who used an alias to get away with the crime. He also shared that he is working with government agencies to punish him with criminal charges.

Handler called for Santos’ resignation in an Instagram clip that opened with her holding a copy of her book, “Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me” in February. According to The Blast, the comedian explained that his purpose in making the video was to “talk about another famous liar, George Santos.”
“Lying is not the only thing George and I have in common. I also got a head start in the competition,” said the “Chelsea Does” documentary chief, referring to a side-by-side photo of himself and Santos in competition attire that appear in the footage.
While the Republican sported a wig, makeup and a red dress, a diminutive Operator paired a blue satin gown with a “Teen of America” sash. The “Chelsea Lately” alum later noted that Santos “is more than half a Black Jewish gay college volleyball star whose mother died on 9/11 and again a few years later, he’s a congressman, and that part is true.”
Later in the clip, the “Uganda Be Kidding Me” author mentions that Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill has been supported by Santos and asks viewers to get “George Santos or Anthony Devolder or Vicky Christina Barcelona or whatever the f** k he. go now” to leave the office.
Handler noted that if the alleged United for Trump campaigner refused to resign, she could at least lend “one of her dresses to Majorie Taylor Green.”
