Restaurant in Jordan named ‘October 7′ in apparent celebration of Hamas’ Israel attack

A new restaurant in Jordan named “October 7” in apparent celebration of Hamas’ massacre of innocent civilians in Israel sparked outrage this week – with an Israeli politician slamming the business for “incitement and hatred.”

The shawarma restaurant debuted in the southern Mazar district of Kerak, on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea, the Times of Israel reported, citing videos posted on X.

Former Jordanian MP Dima Tahboub posted a video on Wednesday showing would-be visitors gathered under a banner that reads “Oktober 7” in orange and white letters.

The cameraman – who has not been identified – then entered the restaurant and was greeted by staff wearing red shirts with “October 7” emblazoned on the back.

About 1,200 people were killed on Oct. 7. 2023, when Hamas terrorists invaded southern Israel and unleashed several hours of terror on the people there.

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapin immediately respond to the restaurant at X.

The shameful glorification of October 7 must stop. Incitement and hatred against Israel gave rise to violence and extremism that led to the brutal massacre on October 7.

“The shameful glorification of October 7 must be stopped. Incitement and hatred against Israel gave birth to violence and extremism that led to the brutal massacre of October 7,” Lapid wrote on Thursday.

“We expect the Jordanian government to condemn this openly and unequivocally [sic],” he added.

However, within hours, the restaurant’s owner claimed to be forced to change the name to “October,” Ynet News said.

“My daughter graduated from medical school on October 7 in Algeria. Now we change it because it is politically understood. The new name is just October. Without 7. We have nothing to do with politics,” he explained.

A post on Facebook, however, reportedly indicates that the restaurant exists under a different name and the owner is asking followers for ideas for a new one, YNet said.

One commenter suggested “October 7,” the outlet explained.

The controversial restaurant’s name comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Jordan – whose population is believed to be about 50 percent Palestinian – as the war against Hamas rages in Gaza.

In November, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi recalled the country’s ambassador to Israel as an expression of “rejection and condemnation” of Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza, the Times of Israel said.

The Jordanian government also asked Israel’s Foreign Ministry to order Ambassador Rogel Rachman – who returned to Israel briefly due to security threats – not to return to Amman, the outlet explained.
