Retired doc busted with ‘hookers, drugs & guns’ free after posting $200K bail — while yacht still sits in Nantucket harbor

A retired doctor busted on a luxury yacht allegedly filled with prostitutes, drugs and guns off Nantucket is walking free after posting $200,000 bail, The Post has learned.

69-year-old married father and former spine doctor Scott Anthony Burke was released last week, Nantucket deputies said Sunday, adding that Massachusetts law stipulates bail must be paid in full.

Burke posted bail at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility about a day after his arrest aboard the 82-foot yacht Jess Conn on Tuesday morning, police said.

Local marina workers and fishermen say they have seen people relaxing on the doctor’s yacht – which is still docked in the luxury harbor – since Burke’s release. It is not clear if the former doctor is among them or if he is still on the island at all.

“There are people on the boat, but I don’t know who they are,” said a fisherman on Sunday.

“Yesterday, I saw two men. … They just sit in the back with hats and glasses. Just two people sitting in the shadows.”

On Sunday afternoon, the yacht’s top deck hot tub appeared to have been used recently, with the cover pulled back and a towel draped over a nearby deck chair.

“Thursday, I saw a woman behind,” said the fisherman.

The worker said he wasn’t sure if one of the men was Burke.

“He looks like most millionaires around here. They looked like they had been eating at the restaurant for the past 30 years. A lot of liquor, a lot of salt, a lot of cream,” said the fisherman.

“They were really humble before they got busted,” the man added of the boat’s occupants.

Burke was bagged when police were alerted to a woman who needed “medical assistance” on board the yacht after possibly suffering an overdose on board.

Responding police took the woman to a nearby hospital — and found about 14 grams of ketamine, about 43 grams of cocaine, a loaded 9mm handgun with a trio of 30-round magazines, and a .380 handgun on the boat.

A bedroom floor was also littered with loose bullets, according to the police report.

After he was handcuffed, Burke allegedly admitted that he owned a firearm and told officers where others were kept.

“Scott Burke has no valid [license to carry] or [firearm identification] card,” said the poice report.

Burke was hit with drug and weapons charges in a hearing at Plymouth District Court on Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty.

The island’s locals – who say drugs and sex are fine for most of the island’s elite visitors – have gotten a kick out of that unpleasant aspect of the situation.

“Everybody is gossiping. We think it’s funny,” said a 61-year-old Nantucket resident who declined to be named. “Everyone does that. He crashed, that’s all.”

But Burke’s weapon crossed the line, they said.

“Rifle [are] a completely different ball game,” said the local player.

Marina workers said that anyone on the boat right now has not been greeted on land.

“Someone comes in a tender, and they’re trying to get a sandwich or something from the island,” said one worker who declined to be identified.

“They tried to come to the marina, and we told them to leave.”

A married father of two, Burke ran a spine and rehabilitation clinic outside of Colorado before retiring in 2021.

He currently resides at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla.
