Simmons Has Met Many People Throughout His Fitness Career

Simmons rose to fame in the 1980s with his fun and energetic workout videos aimed at everyone regardless of shape, size or age. His 1988 VHS “Sweatin’ To The Oldies” grossed more than $200 million, becoming the biggest selling workout tape of all time. So, it is not surprising that many rushed to the comments to leave their own words of gratitude. Many people added their photos with Simmons to the comments, telling their stories about how he helped them through difficult times, and how grateful they were for his kindness.

Michael Catalano, Simmons’ manager, confirmed the authenticity of the post to PEOPLE. “This is a personal message from Richard,” he said. “He was overwhelmed by the reaction to the special gift and all the well wishes he received. He was encouraged by the kindness.”

Tom Estey, Simmons’ representative, told The Post, “Richard is forever grateful for the constant outpouring of love and gratitude he receives from around the world. He is happy, healthy and living the life he has chosen to live.”

Where Did He Go And Why Suddenly?

It’s been years since the famous fitness guru was seen in public. She stopped teaching at her exercise studio in February 2014 and completely disappeared. Rumors began to swirl that he might be held hostage in his Hollywood Hills home by his housekeeper, as well as other theories fueled by the “Missing Richard Simmons” podcast. Although Simmons has not been seen in public since 2014, she called into the “Today” show in 2016 to put an end to rumors that she had been held hostage by her housekeeper.

According to the documentary, Simmons had problems with his knee in 2014 and ended up having a right knee replacement that left him in excruciating pain. He was told he needed a left knee replacement as well, but he allegedly refused surgery. The documentary claims that Simmons’ knee problems are the result of a “birth defect” in which he was “born without a complete set of bones in his legs.”

In the TMZ documentary, which aired on FOX, his disappearance from public view is examined with interviews from people who knew him well. “TMZ Investigates: What Really Happened to Richard Simmons” can be seen on Hulu now and will stream for free on Tubi starting August 30.
