Talk with DeadlineDowney Jr shares his thoughts on Tarantino’s recent criticism of the Marvel franchise.
“We’re in a time and place that I unwittingly contributed to, where IP has taken precedence over principle and personality,” the actor said, admitting that many Marvel fans tend to be more interested in the characters the stars represent.

He also thought about how he had been angered by such criticism in the past but no longer saw it as something to worry about.
The two-time Oscar nominee continued, “Throw stones one way or the other … and I’ve had my reactions in the past when people say things that I feel impugn my integrity … I say, “You know what? Let’s get over it. We are all a community. There is enough space for everything…. That’s all I want to say.”

Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” star Liu has spoken out against Tarantino’s views after the filmmaker’s statement went viral. He said that the presence of seasoned directors like Tarantino and Martin Scorsese as sole decision-makers in Hollywood would prevent him from playing the lead role in a big-budget picture.
“If the only gatekeepers for big movies came from Tarantino and Scorsese, I wouldn’t have a chance to helm a $400 million movie,” the actor wrote on Twitter. “I was amazed by their filmmaking genius. They are transcendent writers. But they can’t turn their noses at me or anyone else.”
Liu then praised “Marvel’s continued efforts to increase diversity on screen by creating heroes that empower and inspire people in all communities everywhere.”
