Zachary is the son of the Oscar-winning actor’s first marriage to Valerie Velardie, which lasted from 1978 to 1988. The actor’s second marriage, to Marsha Garces Williams from 1989 to 2010, gave him two more children, Zelda and Cody. In later years, the actor tied the knot with Susan Schneider in 2011, and they remained a couple until his death.
Robin, best known for his role on “Good Will Hunting,” tragically died in 2014 of a suicide at his home in Paradise Cay, California. His death revealed that he had been misdiagnosed with Parkinson’s disease; autopsy findings showed he was actually battling undiagnosed Lewy body disease, a progressive form of dementia.
Zachary Williams Talks About His Father’s Health Struggles

In 2021, Zachary opened up about his father, sharing that the actor had struggled with “disappointment” due to his health issues before finally passing away in 2014. Speaking on Max Lugavere’s podcast, “The Genius Life,” Zachary stated, “What I seeing was a disappointment. What he went through was not a one-to-one match [with what] many Parkinson’s patients experience. So, I think that was difficult for him.”
Zachary, who is an advocate for mental health, elaborates, per Daily Mail, “There are issues of focus that frustrate him, there are issues associated with his feelings, and also from a neurological perspective he doesn’t feel great. He was very uncomfortable.”
He further discusses his father’s medication, expressing concern about its effect on Robin’s overall well-being. “Drugs are no joke,” he insisted. “They are also very hard on the mind and body.”
He added, “I can’t help feeling empathetic. I can’t help but feel disappointed for him. It can be very isolating even when you are with family and loved ones.”
