Roman Saini is an educator, entrepreneur, former IAS officer, doctor, and motivational speaker. He is the co-founder of “Unacademy,” an educational initiative that provides online educational content (free and paid) for competitive exams.

Roman Saini was born on 27 July 1991 (age 32 years; in 2023) in Raikaranpura Village, Kotputli Town, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was born into an academically strong middle-class family that helped him excel in his studies.
After completing his schooling, he appeared for the AIIMS entrance exam and became the youngest person to crack the exam at the age of 16. Roman went to AIIMS to pursue MBBS.

Rom belongs to the Mali community (OBC) a Hindu Family. His father is an engineer and his mother is a housewife. Roman’s brother, Avesh Saini, is a pediatrician and his sister, Ayushee Saini, is a medical student.
Career
Roman started his career as a junior resident doctor at AIIMS. While serving as a resident doctor, Roman visited medical camps in various poverty-stricken areas of India, where he saw people struggling even for basic amenities. At that time, he decided to go into public service to contribute to society on a larger scale.
When he was in the second year of the MBBS program, one of his friends, Gaurav Munjal, approached him with the idea of starting an education portal. Roman joined hands with Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh, and Sachin Gupta to start- “Unacademy,” an educational venture which later became a popular educational portal among students preparing for competitive exams, especially for UPSC aspirants.
At the age of 22, Roman cleared the Civil Services Examination in his first attempt and secured an AIR of 18. He was one of the youngest candidates in India to clear the examination. After completing his training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, he joined as an Assistant Collector in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. In 2016, Saini resigned from his position as Assistant Collector to devote more time to his initiative, “Unacademy.”
Roman along with his team (consisting of civil servants, teachers, engineers, doctors and experts in other fields), started building their YouTube channel Unacademy, by uploading study materials related to medicine, IT, civil service and foreign languages. Soon after its launch, the video started getting millions of views. Not only that, it is stated that more than 10 subscribers of the channel have passed the civil service examination by following the tips given on the channel.

- Surprisingly, Roman did not attend any coaching institute to prepare for the UPSC exam. He only referred to Vajiram’s materials and the test series. He chose Medical Science as his elective subject.
