Rosario Dawson Reveals ‘Ahsoka’ Was Inspired By THIS ‘Lord of the Rings’ Character

Rosario Dawson Reveals ‘Ahsoka’ Prep Time Took Over 90 Minutes Each Day!

Actress Rosario Dawson is getting ready for viewers to see Ahsoka Tano’s journey continue in a galaxy far, far away.

After making his animated debut “The Clone Wars” and moving on to “Star Wars Rebels,” Dawson helped bring the character to life in Disney+’s live-action series “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”

Now Dawson finally gets the chance to help Ahsoka shine on her own show, which will premiere on Disney+ later this month. Although fans have seen his character mature over the years, Dawson revealed that his journey has a lot in common with another beloved character from “Lord of the Rings.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly that took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Rosario Dawson explained that series creator Dave Filoni was very interested in showing Ahsoka’s journey from a novice Padawan to a competent leader. That led Dawson to draw parallels with Gandalf’s journey from Gandalf the Gray to Gandalf the White in JRR Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings”.

“In the animation, you see him go to white, but what I like is the idea that there’s another level to him,” Dawson explains. “Dave and I talked a lot about Gandalf the Gray and Gandalf the White — talking about that transition and how he’s very capable and brilliant and highly regarded as a leader, but he still has a level of development to go through.”

“The pressure for more, the desire for more, the challenge that he pushes himself against is okay – and it’s actually extraordinary and important,” he continued. “That’s one of the reasons I’ve been drawn to him all this time, the fact that even with his brilliance, he keeps pushing himself further.”

Although Ahsoka has been alone for most of her journey to find Thrawn, she will once again team up with “Rebel” characters Hera Syndulla and Sabine Wren, who will make their first live-action appearance in the new series.

“He seems very alone, and we felt that coming from Rebels, where he’s working with all these different people, but he’s really alone in a lot of ways,” Dawson added. “What I really like about this [show] is that we can perfect it a little more.”

He continued, “We can see how he is in this position and the path he chooses as a kind of ronin, just this warrior himself. And I really like that we get to rekindle some of the relationships that he has from his past.”

Will Hayden Christensen Appear In ‘Ahsoka’?

Actor Hayden Christensen is best known for portraying young Anakin Skywalker in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy. He later reprized his role in the Disney+ prequel series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which also saw Ewan McGregor reprise his role as the title character.

Believe it or not, Rosario Dawson revealed that she and the actor who might play Darth Vader in “Ahsoka” actually go way back, as they were both classmates at the Lee Strasberg Theater & Film Institute early in their careers. “It’s been pretty unusual and exciting,” Dawson told Total Film of their history of partnership. “We were teenagers, and then I saw him right after that go into this universe. I never thought that I would have that part, other than just being a fan of his, and being so proud of him.”

He was also coy about the possibility of him appearing in the new Disney+ series after recently reprising his role in last year’s “Kenobi.” “It’s really great that at this moment, I’m with him, and he’s able to come back [in 2022’s Obi-Wan Kenobi] and also embraced by the Star Wars family in a way that I think is very appropriate,” he said.

“It’s definitely one of those things that would be really cool if he was [in Ahsoka], but I’m really thankful that we’re in the same universe,” he added, hinting at the possibility of Darth Vader making an appearance. Fans will just have to watch “Ahsoka” when it premieres on Disney+ on August 23rd to find out!
