O’Donnell previously took to Instagram to express her views on the matter after Barrymore announced that she will be airing a new episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Monday. By sharing an article written by Elizabeth Grey, O’Donnell urged her co-stars to reconsider taping her chat show while the strike was in progress, a move some considered crossing the picket line.

“Stop filming the show. Stop asking spectators to cross the picket line. Then ask someone to help you make three declarative sentences,” the post begins.

It continued, “They should go along these lines: I made a mistake. I apologize to the WGA for disrespecting the work of professional writers. I apologize to all union members who faced real difficulties because I lived a life of luxury.”

Several fans took to the comments section of Barrymore’s post to write their mixed reactions, with some thanking her for stopping her performance and others claiming she was “bullied”.

“This is certainly the right choice on MANY levels. You grew up in this industry. You KNOW how important it is to stand in solidarity with writers until the strike is over. Your presentation won’t last long if you go ahead with the prime. This is definitely the best way to do what’s best for writers and everyone in the industry going forward. STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!”

Another wrote, “Unity is what is needed. Glad you got there.”

“I hate this – Drew, you’ve been bullied for being real about the business and how the show must go on,” said one fan who felt the actress was being pressured to end her show. “But I know that as an Actor and Director myself, it must be difficult.”

In her initial response to the backlash arising from her decision to continue taping her show, Barrymore defended herself and decided to take “full responsibility” for it.

“There’s nothing I can do or say at this point to make it okay,” the “Charlie’s Angels” actor said in the since-deleted video. “I want to own the decision so it’s not a PR protected situation, and I’ll just take full responsibility for my actions. I know there is nothing I can do to fix this problem for those who don’t fit. I fully accept it.”

As for why she decided to resume, Barrymore stated that the decision was “bigger” than her and that “other people’s jobs are on the line.” He apologized to the writers and the union, explaining that “when things are so difficult, it’s hard to make decisions from that place.”
