Russian officials have vowed revenge against Ukraine for a series of airstrikes that killed 14 people and wounded dozens on Saturday, according to reports.
Russia called a UN Security Council meeting to accuse Ukraine of targeting civilians in the city of Belgorod with drones and missiles. The attack “will not go unpunished,” the Kremlin said.
The airstrikes came a day after Ukraine said it had shot down dozens of Russian missiles on nearly 120 towns and villages, killing 39 and injuring 159, according to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky. who announced the sacrifice on X Saturday.
Belgorod is about 19 miles from the border with Ukraine and has been repeatedly rocked by what Moscow says is indiscriminate shelling by Ukrainian forces.
Russian emergency services said the airstrike killed two children and 12 adults.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, which has repeatedly denounced Western arms shipments to Ukraine, accused the US and Britain of “inciting the Kyiv regime to commit terrorist acts,” according to reports.
