The author insists that he, the performer, and the researcher are behind it Dahmer took the right channel in bringing the show to life and that included the research team who allegedly contacted friends and family members through different means of communication and no one contacted them.
“It’s something we’ve been researching for a very long time,” he said Hollywood Reporter. “And we, in the three, three and a half years that we were actually writing it, working on it, we reached out to 20, around 20 families and friends of the victims trying to get input, trying to talk to people and not one person answered us in the process.”

The producers insisted that the show was made based on heavy research they did. “We’re very, very dependent on our incredible group of researchers who … I don’t know how they found a lot of this stuff,” he says, which sounds suspicious in itself.
“But it’s like night and day for us trying to uncover the truth about these people.” He went on to say that despite all of this, the show was primarily about “the monster he became” as he robbed underserved communities and killed people who were already separated from some minority groups.
To prove all the research he did, Murphy stated on Hollywood Reporter panel that he also hopes to get a memorial placed. “Anything we can do to make that happen … I’d be happy to pay for it myself.”
He further acknowledged the opposition to the memorial from many people including the victims’ families. “I think there was some resistance because they thought the park would attract people interested in paying homage to the terrible.”

Murphy proves all this research that has been done, but in the same breath says, “I don’t know how they found this much stuff,” and then we have family members of the victims, now victims themselves of the attack on this TV show, saying they never contacted.
“I don’t see how they can use our name and put something like that out there,” said the mother of Tony Hughes, Dahmer’s hearing-impaired victim. VictimErrol Lindsey’s sister, Rita Isbel, has been very vocal about her distaste for the show as well.
In addition, he insisted that no one contacted him. Murphy claims that research has been done but hasn’t, but here are two people repeatedly saying they weren’t contacted and found the show offensive. Also, he talks about erecting memorials when the community and family members of victims are disturbed and do not want the memorial or need to be re-traumatized.
Dahmer has been a hit for Murphy and Netflix but has caused a lot of controversy.
