Sacha Baron Cohen As ‘Borat’ Rips Into Kanye West For Being ‘Too Antisemitic’

Sacha Baron Cohen recently revived his famous comedy character, Borat Sagdiyev, to slam controversial rapper Kanye West for being “too antisemitic.” The actor is known for his film and comedy performances as fictional characters such as Borat, Ali G, Admiral General Aladeen, and Brüno Gehard.

Cohen’s character Borat is a somewhat misunderstood fictional Kazakh journalist who, in addition to his comedic remarks, is known for making antisemitic jabs. This is primarily seen as ironic humor, especially because of Cohen’s Jewish heritage.

Since West’s pro-Adolf Hitler statement, several celebrities, such as Natalie Portman and now Cohen, have spoken out against his comments. The rapper previously revealed that he “likes” the dictator and highlighted Hitler’s lifetime achievements.

Cohen made his first Borat appearance in a while during the Kennedy Center Honors to pay tribute to U2 and, jokingly, of course, slam West for being too antisemitic. The event was attended by several famous people, including President Joe Biden, Paul Pelosi, and several other A-list celebrities such as Gladys Knight and George Clooney.

During his session, Cohen aimed a joke at President Biden and commented on how beautiful his wife looks in her own way. The comedian began with, “I know the president of the US and A is here,” Cohen said per TMZ. “Where are you, Mr. Trump?”

Cohen went on to point out Western statements, joking about how the US, led by rappers, is trying to steal the top spot in antisemitism from Kazakhstan. He said, per TMZ, “Before I go on, I will say that I am very disappointed with the antisemitism in the US and A. It is not fair. Kazakhstan is the number 1 Jew destroying country. Stop stealing our hobby. Stop stealing! Stop the theft!”

The comedian continued, “Your Kanye, he tried to move to Kazakhstan and even changed his name to Kazakhstanye West. But, we say: No, he is too antisemitic, even for us.

Cohen, as Borat, went on to perform a parody version of the popular U2 song “With or Without You” but changed the lyrics to “with or without Jews.” The comedian quipped mid-show, “What’s the problem? They love this at Mar-a-Lago. They chose ‘without Jews.’”

Antisemitic rapper West took his comments about Jews a step further earlier this month when he said he liked Hitler. The German dictator is known as the head of the Nazi party and the driving force behind the murder of millions of Jews, widely referred to as “The Holocaust.”

During an interview with Alex Jones on his right-wing conspiracy theory show, “Infowars,” the father of four revealed that he likes the feared dictator and claims that he sees “good things” in him. While trying to defend the West against the continuing backlash Jones said, “You are not Hitler. You are not a Nazi. You don’t deserve to be called like that and slandered.”

Instead of the host’s expected answer, the artist replied, “Well, I also see good things about Hitler. I love everyone.” He went on to state that Hitler “created the highway” as well as “the microphone [he uses] as a musician,” and therefore, has its advantages.

West said, “You can’t say out loud that this person has ever done anything good, and I’m done with that. I’m done with the classification. Every human being has something of value that they bring to the dinner table, especially Hitler. How about that one?”

Just before Cohen’s comedy performance, Oscar-winning actress Portman joined other celebrities to denounce recent antisemitic remarks. While he didn’t mention West directly, his comments came at a time when the rapper is facing intense criticism for his recent interview praising German dictator Hitler.

The Jewish actor himself revealed that when he saw the spread of antisemitism, his heart fell. Portman’s post reads, “This hatred must be fought with infinite love for one another. Today, I send extra love to my Jewish friends. And I send my love to all who stand with us against these violent words and actions.”
