Below Deck: Meet Samantha Suarez, Gary King Alleged Victim of Sexual Misconduct
Former Below Deck production staffer Samantha Suarez has accused the Bravo show of covering up Gary King’s sexual misconduct. He claimed that Gary had tried to force himself while he was getting ready for the fourth episode of “Below Deck Sailing Yacht.”
Samantha said that HR representatives for the show prevented her from discussing the incident with other members of the production team after it happened and retaliated against her when she was not asked to return to the show.
“Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for the cast and crew of our reality shows,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement to TheWrap. “We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and training and clear processes on how to report concerns. The concerns raised by Ms Suarez in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.”
The DoubleTree by Hilton Olbia-Sardinia in Italy, where the entire cast and crew stayed throughout the season, is where the alleged sexual misconduct took place. Samantha is responsible for feeding and drinking to cast members according to COVID-19 guidelines, including Gary, who is exhibiting “difficult” behavior by staying alone. He also assists the talent manager with day-to-day responsibilities.
After participating in numerous interviews for the show one day in July, Samantha was responsible for escorting Gary back to his room. He noticed that King was drunk after drinking “a large amount of alcohol” – which was not restricted by production. Gary said that while bringing him home, Samantha repeatedly asked him to sleep with her and stay in her room. She stated Gary opened the door in his underwear, forced himself on her, and forbade her from leaving the room when he returned with food and water. Gary finally let go of Samantha and closed the door behind her, he continued.
“At that point, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was terrified,” Samantha told Rolling Stone. “It happened so fast.”
After the incident, Samantha claims she immediately notified the show’s producers, co-executive producers, executive producers Courtland Cox and Vivian Choi, and talent managers. He informed the producers that he was no longer comfortable with King, and Cox assured him that if any further incidents occurred, King would be fired from the show.
Samantha also reported the event to the COO of 51 Minds Entertainment, which is responsible for producing the movie “Below Deck”.
Gary defended himself in a comment on his Instagram post on Thursday after Samantha came forward with her accusations. “I have never sexually harassed someone in my life, and I never will,” Gary wrote in response to a fan urging him to “get ready, get some clarity and stop your sexual misconduct.”
When another fan asked if Samantha was “lying,” Gary replied, “Yes, she is. But I’m not going to get into that in the comments. Thanks.” The Bravolebrity responded to fans who questioned Gary’s decision to keep his social media accounts up by saying he wouldn’t “let a lying girl” get to him and that it “seems weird” that this has been reported to him for several seasons.
“It is very strange, it is also far from the truth. He always wanted a platform and unfortunately, I was the unlucky target,” wrote Gary in his Instagram comments section.
“Please tell me who I’m bugging from bd … if I do I’m sure they’ll say something and not some random person,” Gary continued. “Please tell me where I have sexually harassed multiple women … you’re watching the wrong show.”
