The mother of Michigan school shooter Ethan Crumbley and the firefighter’s married lover had a sex party in a hotel while she ignored her son’s pleas for mental health treatment, prosecutors suggested in court Friday.
Jennifer Crumbley, 45, and boyfriend Brian Meloche often found strangers on a swingers app called Adult Friend Finder and arranged to “meet” them at a local hotel after work, prosecutors said in a lively start to their cross-examination of mother at his trial.
Jennifer — who is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with her son’s shooting — admitted to using the app to “arrange for other people to meet us there” but claimed she was going to the hotel after work “on business.”
“I only met Brian at work,” said the mother, who was working as a marketing director for a real estate company at the time, according to ABC News.
Both Jennifer and her husband James Crumbley, 47, have been charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter for the high school rampage that killed their son.
Both pleaded not guilty.
Ethan, now 17, was sentenced in December to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing four students and injuring six others and a teacher at Oxford High School on November 30, 2021.

Jennifer Crumbley’s cross-examination came as prosecutors tried to unravel the mother’s claims that she was a “very careful helicopter parent” who was “close” to her son before he shot up the school.
Prosecutors claimed in court that Jennifer was instead “grossly negligent” by buying her son a gun and failing to seek mental health treatment for the troubled teenager.
Jennifer Crumbley not only spends her free time seeing her firefighter boyfriend, but she’s gone for hours every week, either skiing or horseback riding.

She argued that her son “doesn’t like horses” and therefore she won’t take him with her because she rides horses three times a week, ABC News reported.
Prosecutors claimed in court Friday that Crumbley was so busy with his hobby that he neglected his son.
They show a text message exchange between Jennifer and Ethan in which the word “love” only appears three times over the course of several years.

Prosecutors also displayed excerpts from Ethan’s journal in which he wrote that “my parents wouldn’t listen to me about help or [a] a therapist,” and “I don’t have help for my mental problems, and it’s causing me to raise f–king school.”
The diary entries seemed to shock the mother, who said she “felt like I had an open door. She could come to me about anything,” according to the “Today” show.
She said she had never read her son’s journal before or monitored his internet activity.

Crumbley also claimed that it was her husband who decided to buy their son the 9mm pistol that he would use in the massacre.
She said James and Ethan bought the gun together on Black Friday while she was out shopping alone.
When asked if he objected to the purchase, Crumbley replied, “No.”
“I’m more angry that they cut our Christmas tree time,” he said.
“I usually cut my Christmas tree after I come home from shopping, but I had to wait for it, so I was annoyed,” said the mother.
