Selena Gomez took a step back.
The “Hands To Myself” singer took to Instagram on Thursday, to edit the caption for her photo posted last night. Gomez, 30, has been quite vocal about how social media has affected her mental health in the past, and what she’s done to self-care to recover.
Gomez has been popping up in social media conversations across platforms this week.
In Gomez’s Busy Week On Social Media
After she posted multiple TikToks where she used an eyebrow filter, TikTok users will catch on to the fact Kylie Jenner posted an Instagram story featuring a selfie in which the CEO of Kylie Cosmetics said her over-done eyebrows were an “accident”. In one of Gomez’s TikToks, she joked she “accidentally waxed my ‘brows too much”.
The Blast includes a selection of TikToks linking photos of Jenner and Gomez’s TikTok together; multiple creators will explore whether Jenner was intentionally throwing shade at Gomez, particularly highlighting the fact Jenner reportedly tagged Hailey Bieber in the photo.
Bieber and Gomez have been linked together in the press and on social media for years; the timeline of Beiber’s relationship with her current husband and Gomez’s ex, Justin, remains an interesting topic. The Biebers allegedly started dating a month after Justin called her with Gomez for the last time. The couple dated for four years.
Gomez tried to quell the speculation when she commented on TikTok that went viral about her alleged feud with Jenner; she’ll echo Jenner’s comments where she said the idea to intentionally mock Gomez’s TikToks was “arrived”.
“Agreed @kyliejenner This is all unnecessary,” Gomez said, before adding, “I’m a Kylie fan!”
Gomez would continue to make headlines after she later commented on an allegedly out-of-context Bieber video, in which she can be seen clearly mocking Gomez’s close friend Taylor Swift.
Swift would defend her friend by commenting, “Sorry, my best friend, and continue to be one of the best in the game.”
Social media quickly got word of Gomez’s defense with chatter Twitter and TikToks creating about the “Lose You To Love Me” singer standing up for her friend.
Many would criticize Gomez for her actions, accusing her of being “obsessed” with Bieber. (via The Blast)

In 2021, The Blast sees Gomez’s candid revelation about the negative role social media has played in her life.
“It’s too much of my personal life spread out there,” she told WWD’s Beauty Inc in an interview. Gomez also discussed the struggles she faces with allowing social media users’ perceptions of her to take complete control, and dictate her thoughts.
“I got nothing out of it,” he would go on to say. Gomez ended up asking her team members to take full control of her social media accounts, and that she would step in when the situation called for it.
“I text my assistant the captions I want for all my posts,” she continued.

Gomez edited the caption on her latest Instagram post on Thursday to announce her latest social media hiatus.
Her new caption reads, “I deleted this time because I thought it might be too much, but eh (taking a break from social).”
The picture shows Gomez looking content as she is seen enjoying her drink.
As of this writing, there doesn’t seem to be any comment on the photo regarding the announcement; Countless celebrities and fans praised SelGo for finally deciding to post the photo.
Gomez’s relationship with her mental health and the struggles she faces are the subject of an Apple TV+ documentary, which appeared on the platform in November. She will openly discuss her bipolar disorder while promoting the doc, revealing it could affect her chances of having a baby naturally because of her medication.
“That was a very, very, very big thing in my life,” he told Rolling Stone according to our report on the documentary. “However, if I want to have it, I will,” Gomez continued.
