Gomez explained that having high standards and high maintenance are completely different, but she included the line in her lyrics because it was “fun.” He also said, “I’m not ashamed to say that I actually need x,y, and z for you to be with me,” adding, “So in a way that’s just meant for the attitude of the song and that’s exactly how I feel.”
The “Kiss & Tell” musician didn’t mind elaborating on what he meant by x, y and z, sharing, “You got to be cool, man, not cool in the sense that people think you’re cool, you just got to be nice and, like, please make me laugh and also be good to my family and people around you.”
