On Monday, the “Wizards of Waverly Place” star took to her Instagram Stories to reveal her deep concern over recent global headlines and explain why she’s taking a break from social media.

“I’ve taken a break from social media because I’m heartbroken to see all the horror, hate, violence and violence going on in the world,” wrote Gomez, 31. “People being tortured and killed or any act of hate for any one group is horrible.”

He added, “We need to protect EVERYONE, especially children and stop violence for good.”

The “Love You Like a Love Song” singer appears to be referring to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas, with reports indicating that thousands of Palestinians and Israelis have lost their lives in the ongoing hostilities since early October.

Commenting on her recent silence on Instagram, Gomez commented on her Instagram Story, admitting that fans have taken notice. Her last post, since October 7, featured an ad for a collaboration between her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, and Sephora, where proceeds from sales are pledged to the Rare Impact Fund – an initiative dedicated to expanding mental health services for young individuals.
