Although she delivered stellar performances in the movies “Cruel Intentions” and “Legally Blonde,” the iconic star is better known these days for her appearances on the hit show “Dancing With The Stars.” Being on the dance floor earned him the “People’s Choice Award” for the 2022 Contestant.
In his cover story for the January issue of “Self magazine,” the 50-year-old shared candidly how the condition has affected his life since he was diagnosed. Sitting down for a chat with Self, she spoke briefly about her 2-year-old Labrador Scout, a service dog trained to alert Blair when she senses she’s getting weak or needs to take her medication.
He has been part of the journey of his MS, which is known to be very unpredictable as it attacks the central nervous system. This means that a person’s immune system mistakenly attacks myelin — the protective sheath that acts as insulation around the body’s nerve fibers.
The symptoms were widespread and lasting for the “The Sweetest Thing” actress, as she described in her memoir “Mean Baby” how she recognized the physical prompts of the neurological condition. Some of them include throbbing headaches, constant fevers, and constantly failing limbs, which he experienced as early as fourth grade.
The author would eventually experience constant pain and loss of feeling in his feet. Doctors failed to diagnose him, blaming him for depression and malnutrition, even wondering if he was making it all up.

He noted that when he finally found out what happened, there was a sense of relief, writing, “like the feeling you get when the ocean waves break right on the beach before taking you under.”
Instead of hiding and keeping quiet since the beginning of her illness, she opened up about it and quickly became one of the most prominent faces supporting disability in Hollywood.
In his book, the “Hellboy” star wrote, “I always say how important visibility is for people with disabilities. Well, visibility is important for everyone. You’ve got to show that you’re alive.” In 2021, Blair filmed a documentary chronicling her life as she prepared for a potentially life-changing and risky stem cell transplant.
Fortunately, it turned out well for him as he finally stopped regressing for the first time since 2018 – meaning it stopped growing, and he stopped losing abilities.
The “Brown’s Requiem” actress shared that even with her new and improved condition, the disease still haunts her daily life, adding, “I’m much better, but it haunts my physical cells. It’s there.” The mother of one continued:
“Some people wake up two years later, and they’re like, ‘I’m cured! The color is brighter!’ But I never had that moment. I just stopped regressing.”

The two actors, who have long been friends and acted together, now share another thing in common — fighting the same autoimmune disorder, Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Their shared diagnosis only serves to bring them closer together, as Blair shares how they supported themselves through life-changing events.
According to The Blast, Blair had nothing but praise for the 51-year-old and how she’s handling the big changes she announced in 2021. The “Dancing With The Stars” alum chatted with ET’s Denny Directo and expressed her gratitude for being alive to see her friends celebrate on Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
She referred to Applegate as the iconic California girl actress of her generation, saying, “There’s not one thing she’s done that I’ve never been like, ‘Step it up,’ and she’s just become who she is with this MS.”
Aside from supporting the “Dead To Me” actor’s accomplishments in his Hollywood career, the Michigan native stated that he is returning many of the favors the old star has given him.
Despite her diagnosis, Blair noted that the “Married… with Children” star still supports her, calling her a strong and nurturing person. He added that in return, he tried to help his friend with a cane to help him walk and other things to make life easier in his new reality.
