Sen. John Barrasso’s wife dead at 70 after two-year brain cancer fight

The wife of Senate GOP Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) died Wednesday afternoon of brain cancer, two years after he was diagnosed. He is 70 years old.

“After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and at home with God,” Barrasso said in a statement.

“In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bobbi was a leader, a fierce advocate for Wyoming, and a friend to everyone she met. We miss him so much. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for your continued prayers and support as we remember him and grieve together.”

In 2003, Bobbi Barrasso was diagnosed with breast cancer but made a full recovery after undergoing surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and later became a founding member of the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative.

Bobbi, a native of Wyoming, moved to Washington, DC, after college and ended up working for the state’s two US senators, Malcolm Wallop and Craig Thomas, the latter of whom died in 2007 and was replaced by Barrasso.

The couple married the following year in Thermopolis on January 1.

Bobbi, who was born in the town, serves as chairman of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, where she helps organize concerts atop Mount Casper, and as assistant director of the Wyoming Heritage Association and Foundation.

As a senator’s wife, she also maintains friendships with the spouses of other members of parliament, US presidents and world leaders.
