Sen. John Fetterman fired up a crowd of pro-Hamas protesters on Capitol Hill Thursday by waving a small Israeli flag at them — and joked that his post-stroke condition made their demonstration incoherent to him.
“Shy!” and “What a joke!” jeering protesters shouted as Fetterman (D-Pa.) emerged from the Russell Senate Office Building proudly holding a small Star of David flag above his head, according to footage posted on X by the group About Face: Veterans Against the War.
“What do we want? Armistice! When do we want it? Now!” protesters also chanted, with some accusing Fetterman of “doing Pennsylvania a disservice” and supporting the “massacre” of Palestinians.
The 54-year-old also told an agitator that he couldn’t “fully understand what you’re saying” after suffering a stroke during last year’s campaign which had significantly hampered his ability to process what people were saying.
A spokesman for Fetterman’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incident.

Several protesters were later arrested by the US Capitol Police, About Face said in its post.
“Jackass @JohnFetterman saw veterans get arrested and laughed,” the group said. “We asked to see @SenGillibrand. We were put in shackles.”

Fetterman, elected as a progressive in 2022, has emerged as a staunch supporter of Israel in the wake of the October 7 Hamas terror attack, which killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians — including 33 Americans.
About 240 people were also taken hostage by Hamas jihadists and are being held in the Gaza Strip, where the Israel Defense Forces have carried out airstrikes on the terrorist group’s commanders and launched a ground offensive.
“In my front office, I have displayed posters of innocent Israelis kidnapped by Hamas,” Fetterman said. in a video posted on X earlier this week.

“They will stay awake until everyone gets home safely.”
Fetterman has also been meet some of the survivors terrorist attacks and their families held hostage, stressing that it is too early to discuss ending the conflict.
“We must support Israel in its efforts to eliminate Hamas terrorists who are slaughtering innocent men, women and children,” the senator wrote. Oct. 18 on X.

The former lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania remains a harsh critic efforts by congressional Republicans to separate US military aid for Israel from separate aid proposals for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression.
