Sen. Tim Scott calls for the deportation of foreign students supporting Hamas

Presidential candidate Tim Scott on Wednesday called for the expulsion of foreign students at US colleges who “encourage the genocide of Jews” as Israel waged war on Hamas after a deadly surprise attack.

“When we have students on campus who are actually promoting the genocide of Jews, who are advocating murder and advocating terrorism, those students should be removed from campus and those who have visas should be taken away – deported from our country,” the Republican said. The South Carolina senator told Fox News host Neil Cavuto.

“Anytime you actually advocate for genocide, the elimination of an entire race of people, anytime you support terrorism, and encourage murder, there have to be consequences,” Scott added. “It should have consequences for those students, and it should have consequences for those universities.”

A number of Republicans have called for the cancellation of visas belonging to foreigners living in the US who support Hamas or its allies following the terrorist group’s attack on Israel on October 7.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, one of Scott’s 2024 GOP presidential rivals, vowed last week to revoke the visas of any foreign students “out there praising Hamas, when I’m president.”

“I will cancel their visas and I will send them back to their countries of origin,” he said during an event in Iowa.

DeSantis has also ordered the Florida university system to “crack down” and dismantle Students for Justice in Palestine, a radical pro-Palestinian student group whose national leadership supports Hamas attacks on Israel.

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) have separately called on the Biden administration to deport all foreigners, not just students, who have expressed support for Hamas and other terrorist groups, citing U.S. law immigration deems aliens ineligible to enter the US if they “endorse or support terrorist activity or persuade others to support or support terrorist activity or support a terrorist organization.”

More than 1,400 Israelis have been killed in Hamas attacks and more than 4,300 have died in Gaza since the start of Israel’s war to rid the narrow strip of terrorist land.
