Serena Williams, Hailey Bieber, and Bella Hadid honored their friend and fashion designer Virgil Abloh a year after his death at age 41.
The fashion icon — a married father of two — had privately battled a rare form of cancer known as cardiac angiosarcoma, diagnosed in 2019. He died on November 28, 2021.

In his honor, Williams posted a black-and-white photo of himself and Abloh on Instagram on Monday. The image shows the pair looking intently into the camera as the tennis legend stands behind the late Off-White CEO and puts his hand on his shoulder.
After admitting how hard it was to put into words the “sorrow” she felt, the mother of one wrote, “Your touch on the world will last forever, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have witnessed it and experienced it. The opportunity to work with you .”
She concluded, “I still miss you all the time. Forever and ever @virgilabloh,” accompanied by two red heart emojis. Williams’ post not only got nearly 90k likes but also touched people’s hearts.
One admitted they were “feeling sad too,” and a second wrote, “God Virgil…..One of the best human beings we’ve ever been blessed with…….No words. Rest well, champ.” “Worlds apart, & we share the same love for him. So missed,” a third fan opened, and a fourth added, “one of the greatest, gone too soon.”

Three hours before Williams’ broadcast went live, Hadid uploaded a ‘gangsta’ image of herself and Abloh to her Instagram Story. The two looked as fly as can be as they posed in front of the Eiffel Tower. Hadid wrote, “Man I miss you every day V!.. Feels like you’ve been gone for a lifetime and a week at the same time,” alongside the photo.
Hailey Bieber joined the train with a photo of herself in a lace wedding dress and a veil holding the arm of the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection. “4 forever and always. We all miss you everyday Virg. LLV,” he wrote with a dove emoji.
The news of Abloh’s death was announced on his Instagram page last year. The Blast shared that the heartbreaking statement read:
“We are honored to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Gray Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and many dear friends and colleagues.”

The announcement stated that Creative Director Donda decided to “face her battle personally since her diagnosis in 2019, undergoing multiple challenging treatments, while leading several important institutions spanning fashion, art and culture.”
Despite his health challenges, Abloh’s “work ethic, boundless curiosity, and confidence never wavered” thanks to his “dedication to his craft and his mission to open doors for others and create a path for greater equality in art and design. ”
After thanking fans for their support and love, the family asked for privacy to mourn and celebrate the life of their loved one.
